Description
Two of six portraits created for the AfterCamlann 2017 Big Bang fic, "The Golden Path," which is a fusion with His Dark Materials. Each person in this universe has a daemon, an animal manifestation of the other half of the person's soul.

Arthur's daemon is a rather haughty female Eurasian lynx named Penstemmon. The medallion behind them is inscribed with the engravings found on Excalibur, which translate to, "Take me up" and "Cast me away."

Merlin is shown with Archimedes, a long-eared owl, in front of an alethiometer, for reasons that become more obvious when you read the fic.

The dominant colors in each portrait are tied to the relationships between the characters and to the magical world; cool colors for those with magic, warm colors for those without, complementary colors for those with strong relationships (not necessarily romantic!), and related colors for family.
