Haven't posted new art for a while because work keeps me real busy. Right now I'm one of the concept artists at the studio, designing creatures and monsters for an upcoming project. Things have been going great for me so far. Thanks for all the support!I figured mermaids must get bored of eating fish all the time. So I painted this illustration depicting one method mermaids could use for hunting animals that live above the sea.

Very impressed, both with your concept and with you've done with it. There is so much here. The speared white bird in the foreground is a powerful symbol in itself, no matter whether you feel sorry for it, or impressed by the skill of the huntress, or both. There's a sense of fulfillment in the smile and the posture of the red-headed mermaid. And the central figures of the great fish and and its rider, rising from the ocean: the word "goddess" comes to mind.

Haha, I hope I'm not making it sound like a huge accomplishment or anything. It's just that most of the other artists in the studio specialize in 3D or compositing.
And now I feel sorry for the seagulls too. = (

i bet it's pretty hard for a mermaid to ride a fish... no legs to dangle on both sides.. and slimy scales against a scaled mermaid tail.. phew..

I don't think riding a fish would be that hard for a mermaid. They basically just hold on to the harness and let the fish pull them along.
