Obscure Character Spotlight is exactly what it says on the tin: me getting art done of lesser known characters who I think should get more attention.

Sapper first appeared in Ms. Marvel #13 in 1978, created by Chris Claremont and Jim Mooney. Apart from from him and his partner Goldenbalde (who wasn't named in the issue) wanting to steal energy, nothing was revealed about them in that issue. Claremont may of had plans for them, but Ms. Marvel was cancelled before they could appear again. Over 20 years later, Kurt Busiek used them in his Iron Man run where he revealed that Sapper was a cyborg of the alien Rajaki race, and that he was seeking vengeance on the giant robot Ultimo who had devastated his home planet.

Now here's where things get really interesting. 10 years after he had appeared in Iron Man, he got a Marvel Universe Handbook profile in the Iron Manual Mark 3. The writer for the profile, Mark O'English, was quitting the Handbbok writing staff, so as a way to thank the fans, he used names of people who frequently posted on the forums for the Handbook on the profiles for Sapper (who shared it with Goldenblade) and Project Pegasus. Since I was one of them, he used my last name as part of Sapper's real name, revealed as Osinga Rplss.

And THAT'S why I think he deserves more attention.
