This is absolutely stunning!ย Quite possibly the best rendition of Atlantis I've ever seen.ย Far better than the studio version even I'd say.

Depends entirely on what studio model you refer to as Alec McClymonts's textured version of the updated s2-3 model was pretty friggen awesome imo.

That's true.ย The quality did vary throughout the seasons.ย I like some of the choices (revisions?) you made to the model itself though and your choices of materials.ย Feels more modern, for lack of a better term.ย It's also a great scene and render.

wouldnt call them revisions more like i took parts i liked from all the diffrent versions we saw on the show and combined them

depends on which show model you mean as there were multiple, but compared to the one i based this one on i Think mine is almost a million polys less or more tho i have spent more time on the textures.

The textures are really what set this model apart from the rest.ย In a typical SGA episode the most we'd typically see of Atlantis' exterior would be 3 second leadup shots (Pan left/pan right-let the Audience know where they're going next). This meant that we'd rarely get a long enough look at the city to actually notice how smooth every structure was... but the textures were right there in the open for anyone to see.ย In most cases, there weren't any issues since most of the shots involving the city were taken from a distance, but once you got inside the city and threw in some long battle sequences, the textures would start to show their age.ย
It's easy to see all the flaws and imperfections in a model that you've been working on, since you have the ability to get up close and personal with the piece, but from an audience's perspective, when comparing your model with the equivalent show model, if it's close enough to the overall shape then all anyone really cares about are the textures.ย
Kudos to you for that.
It might be that in some ways we're pretty similar, anything I make has to exceed a certain threshold of quality when it's finished... and it usually isn't high enough quality for my liking in the end... but that's a good thing.
Perfectionism is a hard master to serve, yes, but the results are usually worth every bit of pain we go through to achieve them.

and best hmm maybe Close but im not 100% happy yet.. i may go back and add more polys to it for more details in some areas
