I don't need a character to be sympathetic for me to like them. Foils are interesting to me because they introduce tension. Their motivations and actions make a story memorable.

Am I the only one who's hoping that Asami gets eaten by the giant centipede guy? I mean... I get that there are huge differences in perspective or culture, but I have no sympathy for Asami at this point.

even the way Miyo restrains and takes Asami back to the room is firm but gentle.. caretaker as well as housekeeper.
I don't get the impression that Miyo is particularly strong, so I can't really say "hauls" or "drags her off Nae".. but it's sometimes hard to remember that Asami is old and somewhat frail even if she's feisty, stern, and harsh.

I'm finding it incredibly hard to be too judgmental towards someone who clearly thinks she's doing the right thing. Rather, I feel sorry for the old woman because she thinks she's in the right.

It feels a little off at this point. Nae could've/should've said already, that she's suffering from weird hallucinations and that she's getting unconscious for no real reason, even if Asami might not believe her. But that Asami has no intention in Nae's well-beeing is very unlikely, because from the beginning we know that Nae was her 'flagship', her best girl, a very talented one, with a bright future. So she fucks up several times in a row, something that probably never happened before like that and all she does is hit her? She didn't even ask what might be wrong with her, and now she doesn't want to see her face ever again? Sorry, I don't think this is convincing.

This kind of situations also happen in the real life, and pretty often. No matter how "useful" nor "important" you are to a company, unless you are a celebrity that can rule over the ones that hired you, as long as you fail several times in a row and you were already warned, you are off.
Perhaps in jobs that they can make-up "nothing happened" because they adore you or customers aren't looking right to you, a member that may fail is allowed as long the corporation's reputation isn't affected.
Whenever you say you are suffering from weird hallucinations, people won't take you seriously but if you really act like that, you are considered insane. Nobody will help you.
In addition, Nae's job is delicate. Being a Geisha requires absolute control of your body and perfection. Perhaps she was the best for that, but the trade philosofy don't accept fails. You are not perfect, you are not useful.

While there might be traction in her inability to present the hallucinations as a valid point of her failure, as being though of crazy, it isn't all that credible. The valuable race horse is never discarded until the very end. They fail races all the time. One just does not simply throw away a money maker. Most good and profitable horses get medical treatment or take time off to get better. Most, not all. I am sure in real life people will not discard something so quick.
Nae might not be useful in grand scale parties due to the embarrassment, but I am sure she can still service lower class or in that case become a prostitute directly. Which is still profitable.

So, we are talking of different points. A good race horse is extremely expensive to simply discard it. You raise a horse, dam and sire preoviously bough too and you have to take good care and put lots on work on it to make a champion. Here, not all horses are that good and many are put down or left because they will rarely find a buyer if it is not worth. Owners aren't any happy with their animals as long as they become useless and can't win anything, not just race horses but exhibition dogs too, for example.
They rise the animals in order to make money and do a living. They don't need a burden that consumes money for free.
In the case of people, the situation turns worse. You just hire somebody. You don't have to take any responsability of them. You get done and you can fire anybody. They are no real worth and are dispensable and replaceable. This is the case applied to Nae. She turns bad at her job and can't do anything fine anymorein such a perfectionist and elitist job? They don't need her. There is no need to hold her there if she won't get better or has lost her abilities and much less they will wait for retirement.
As I said, the trade of a geisha is tough. Becoming a slut won't heal her either and they aren't nearly the same job.

I hope at some Point the Story will move into another Direction of seeing Nae suffer endlessly.
For some Reason, there is no Way Nae can try to say that she is haunted by Illusions or Stuff or
the like, is it? Or if this Stuff is more than just Illusions - or not.
But, as we all know "shitty People" - Asayami would most likely not believe Nae and think she
is just faking it and making it up. Maybe or likely this is why Nae never told her. She is very likely
convinced the old Hag would not believe her.
Not that anyone could blame Nae if she was thinking this.

i can't really agree with this argument... i've seen memoirs of a geisha and they did tend to treat them like that. i don't know how they're treated in this modern age, but back then that was how it was done. it's sad and unfair, but that's how it is/was.
