It's such a richly colored piece. The red sky is so emotional, the clouds are truelly heavenly, and the characters are beautiful! 
My favorite part about this piece is the male's armor. Not only is it well drawn, and detailed, but the little lighting details look amazing. It really makes it enchanting.
Although I'm not sure I would say the background is over-worked, per se. I think everything being so vividly colored draws the eye away. The sky also draws the eye dominantly with the bold red and, more importantly, the expanding light, which swallows a good portion of the canvas. Although, the bold colors aside, it's a fairly basic background as far as elements and details are concerned. It's mostly sky. But I can see what she was getting at.
Still, very very lovely, and it looks great.

Ok...this is going to sound a bit harsh...and i really don't want to be harsh, but there's a thing as to much detail. You spent so much time on the background you made the characters seem to not stand out. If it was a landscape painting, sure, detail the background as much as you want. In pictures like this, you want the characters to stand out, not the background. Also, the angle of the mithra bothers me for some reason. But yeah, moral of the story is: don't overwork a piece or it'll be far to busy.

This is really beautiful, I'm particularly touched by the fellow's hand that is reaching upwards. It looks as if he's using the last of his strength to reach his friend, but he just doesn't have enough strength left...
The Mithra's expression is so sad and gentle, and the warm colors of the sky really add to her majestic image. The background and especially the armor details for the fallen man are especially lovely. You've done an amazing job, Peti.

Heh just shows that you and whoever made the ending for Crisis Core are on the same level when they think of death and a friend/angel coming to get you. I've always loved that ending and the idea of it.

I really adore (even if I shouldn't say by myself!) the upper part, I think is warm too! But for the male part, maybe is the grass, but doesn't look so warm... too saturated?
