Description
This is supposed to be my interpretation of the human turn Dreamon called Prince Willem, from the story The Dream of Manyby WiseFireCracker when he is under the influence of the Dreamon predator instincts, as described in the chapter 8.
Boy this was a hell of a dozy to do. This was an over 70 hours of work on and off spread over two month and was promised over six months ago; I think i should consider being to starting work a "little" soon instead of just of just doing it when ever I feel like it. I think I finally reach the point in my art(boy I feel pretentious saying that) that I don't need to do as much studies before starting the actual work and know more or less intuitively what work's and what doesn't. For this work I actually dis a lots studies before (you can look around my gallery I think their are a few laying around) because I wanted this to be just perfect and didn't spare the effort on trying different methods to do make as much of a smooth, shiny metal sheen to the armor for which I had a lot of fun designing. When a design this I wanted that every part of hiss body of this Alicon to cream evil with a capital E. So I made as much of a Baroque design with lots of sharp angles that and put as many lades as I could get away with with out going be coming tasteless, shape pointy teeth, fork-tongue, drark red misty mane and tail, the work

It looks cool in a demonic way. Looks like a tough fighter, and the armor looks more like shell skin.

I am happy to learn that you take the time and care to sift thought the comment, it shows a lot of attention. I hope you have the chance to read his story or to see the other armor that I did for this character that can be fond right there. The detail on the armor and the wings, also the fiery aura mane is a really nice touch.
It give him a symbol of who he is like King Sombra and his shadows.

Yes, King Sombras was definitely a good sours of inspiration in visualizing this character, I think a lot of people do anyway. key words in creating a really bad pony had angles and curves.

Well, you went into a lot of detail on the armor which is really nice, and the wings and fiery aura stand out a lot against the back ground I think that was the part I noticed first. But the whole thing looks epic ^^

Well, I have also looked at you work so far, and if I can give you some advice about your current work, I would say that you would need to start inking your line art to bring your character out better from the image; at least it would help make you lines look a little more focus. You might want to start using a scanning you images, because I have a little trouble seeing them clearly at the moment.

Oh boy, this one's a doozy. I'm going to say it now, and probably repeat it a couple of times, but thank you for this spectacular picture of William. So much stuff going on in there, no idea where to start. Ah, yes, maybe, this: you said it took you about 70 hours and it shows. The amount of details in this is staggering. Every little piece of armor looks gorgeously polished. The lighting is just... damn. Hot damn.
I am kinda drooling as much as William is in that pic, because that is some incredible stuff right there. And I love that you added that detail. It just serves to showcase the primal hunger that haunts dreamons of all kinds instead of making him just snarl or roar.
I remember the preview you showed me and there's still that sense of sharpness everywhere, like the guy is pure edge in both the slang and metalwork ways. Still, I have to give you giant kudos for the fog effect you layered on top of him, and the way you used it in the mane. On his body in general, it just adds this little hint of gloom and ether that comes from a nightmare, but in the mane and tail, it's like drawing a parallel with Celestia and Luna. And the effect is like blood red mist or something like flickers of flame and the difference is such a great aesthetic.
Speaking of, I have to commend you on the color scheme of the overall pic. As a whole, the drawing clearly tilts toward dark colors, evil, and this kind of alignment. But I think the way you managed to balance the red and blue and purple stops it from being merely a cold piece. It's just like he's clashing with his environment. While the night sky is soothing with the dark blue, William is like a bloody, savage thing in the picture, and the purple armor feels surprisingly bright in that environment. There are many pieces of steel that just cut through the dark tones and sorts of cut him out of the background too.

For the drooling, I though it would be a nice last touch to give him a more feral feel to him.
For the fog effect on the body I felt that I needed to show that Willem is not entirely tangible as such, that he is more of terror filled presence the anything else and that he is not governed by the same material rule that we are, and just make his presence even more unsettling then he already is. I wanted to give him a sens of aw, wander and despair, so giving him the appearance of an ascended alicon like Celestia and Luna manes and tail made sens to as to his ethereal presents. Coupled with an agro mix between a theastral and King Sombra look in the armor along with cloven hooves and the wicked bladed horn to drive the point home hard that you don't want to mess with him.
For the colors, I am not too sure that I did it well enough. I was afraid that the blue metal trim highlights would overwhelm the already dark purple armor. the light blue timing was of course supposed to make the purple even more darker, but I was afraid that you wouldn't see the purple any more. I think I managed to off set this with the red gems to bring out the purples Vibrancy.
For the background it was very tricky thing to do, to find a way to give it substance and context, to give its own dreamscape feel to it all the while complementing Willem's presents. So it had to be darker then him and still even darker with the white spots of starlights in the far background. The dreamscape cloud path gave me a lot of headaches as it had to clearly show without over whelming Willem show, I redo the background about three times.

thanks, that's what is the effect that I was striving for. This was a lot of work to do and their are many things I could have done to make life easier on me but will probably be you these techniques in my later pieces to shave off a few hours of tedious work. Still, this was a lot of fun to do, and surviving this ordeal just make me want to do even more.

There's enough bladed edges on this fellow a touch is going to cost you a finger. or more. Does not play nice with others is a very unsaid given.
Though this has the old warhammer dark elven vibe to it in the armor being more interlocking scaled plates.

That was the general idea that I wanted to convey in his attire, the suit does make the stallion after all. I have never really payed any attention to Warhammer Fantasy so I am sorry to say what I don't really know much about the Dark Elves.

Some quick example of fav.me/d31ok5m in the nature of harsh angular lines, and you hit that nail with a tnt pounded sledgehammer. So bravo on that!
