Description
A male Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) works on a nest. Quetzals incubate and look after their chicks as a couple. Both male and female work on the construction of the nest, which is built on rotting tree trunks - they hollow them out using their beaks. Two or three eggs are put per couple, per breeding season. Usually, the pairs will have several nests over a particular territorial area, and may decide to use any given one for the breeding season in any given year. They are unpredictable and are said to work on several nests at once, until they decide which one to use for the season.Did you know? Male quetzals are easier to spot when working on their nests because their extremely long tails will usually stick out of the tree when they are inside. Females have much shorter tails.

I did not see any at Quetzals at a nest, but we did see a cavity that they have been working at recently. This is really cool that you captured him here. It's very unique!

Thank you! I actually wanted a more "standard" photo with the male bird facing me, but I didn't get that. xD

Oh my goodness! Wow. I think I would pee myself if I ever encountered this in the wild- even if I had gone out specifically to look for them.
And what a great shot too!
