And the last Steven Universe card for now, whew! The plan is to draw an art trade next and then a few Zootopia cards, so I hope that some of you look forward to that! ^^This card was a gift for the host of the Steven Universe event. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to participate and since I now know how much time such things take, I really wanted to leave my thanks as well! When I read that Lapis was one of her favorites I imemdiately knew what to draw. Lapis from behind is always a great choice due to her gem, even if the ribbon covers it up a bit. Drawing the ribbon and dress was especially fun >u< This time watercolor pencils were used, though, because that's what seemed to make the most sense for a water character. Also, the transparent water wings turned out better than they would have with colored pencils or polychromos.
Something new (which you probably can't see that well) is the use of a silver edding which makes some places shiny, though it looks grey in the scan and not that obvious in general. If you're curious about it, I added a photo that shows the shiny parts in the Tumblr link below ^^ (It's really just a few little spots though because I didn't want the card to turn out being corny)

Love that merging color in the background. Lapis is always neat to see. Guess it's because blue is my favorite color. Great posing.

I was thunking the nose. Drawing an anime character would have it more protruding and curved outward from the forehead. Of course, I couldn't say offhand how SU characters are drawn from the side so maybe you have it right. It's just that I used to draw that way until I took more time to observe the usual styles.

While I have watched very few episodes of SU, I do in fact remember the one episode where Lapis does obtain those water wings implanted on her back heheh.
And this image really does scream with emotions from the sky background and how Lapis is in her pose like that, almost as if she's at peace with the world.

Those Lapis episodes where the ones where I think Steven Universe became REALLY interesting! Though in the meantime, she became quite a bit different from back then as well xD

Wow. This is really well made and seems to have a lot of effort put into it. I enjoy how you painted the sky behind Lapis and how you made the stars behind her. Everything about her form seems very natural and vivid, especially how you drew and painted her skirt. This is a really beautiful piece and I hope you make more like this in the future.
