Description Idealized Self Portrait: À La Mode
(to the men in my life)

120lb paper, acrylic paint, 4hrs

+Marx's face
+Jackalope's left antler and right ear
-line work

Not sure how much I like the final product, although I'm digging the concept. I'm attempting to put on paint in new ways, as well as develop a style, and I'm pretty sure this is the first step. Odds are I'll try something similar to this sometime soon, so we'll see where it takes me...

They're pretty big--the figures are about a foot tall each? Once I get my paint to do what I want, I'll make you a painting :]

Hell yeah :] You down here for the summer, or are you going to be in NYC / MA?? Because we should totally get together with um--everybody--and the two of us can swap something.

Well drop me a date for Skobiefest and I'll be there for sure no matter what of course. It's like a yearly fucking pilgrimage to Jewett City...

Well, I like the final product.

It makes me think of Navajo art - though that could just be the colours and the fact of the jackalope and/or bodies with mismatched heads. Not being an expert on art of any sort, much less that of the Navajos, I couldn't really give a good critique or acurate assesment of WHY your piece makes me think of the Navajos, but it does.

Also makes me think of Neil Gaiman, but I don't think you've ever read anything by him so that's a totally useless piece of information (but a complimentry one - I adore Neil Gaiman. Remind me - I still need to make you watch MirrorMask).

Not positive I understand the title, but you know me - when it comes to art, what I look for is "does it look good? Does it intrigue me somehow? Does it evoke some sort of feeling?" and balls to symbolism. Symbolism is nice if you get it, but I'll never call it necessary, so I don't think my having no clue what you're aiming for with your title has any bearing. Again, just information.

Anyway. I'll stop cluttering your comments.
Love you.

You never clutter my comments darling. <3 It's always more than welcome.

Don't worry about understanding it though; I think I'm the only one in the entire world that would really get it. Plus: it's posted. The artist is dead, so it means whatever you want it to mean. I do symbol-heavy work that makes sense to only me 90% of the time anyway, so I think it's sort of to be expected by this point. Mostly, because it's a way for me to be open about what I'm thinking / feeling without having to fear that people actually understand me. They can understand to some level--which is good--but not to a level where it scares me.

I think I'm going to try something else with this style though. Like... right now. @______@ Totally don't want to go back to studying. Let's see if illustrator can't help me out??
