Description
experimenting with some new brushes / textures / fun things for a project i'm going to have to do sometime this week for a photography class. nothing much, but i thought it was interesting none-the-less...suggestions? if the next project comes out well enough, we're talking another gallery exhibition here. criticism not only welcome, but encouraged.

...well, first off, that is such a fucking bizarre image I'm not quite sure how to react. Whatthefuckunicorns.
Anyfuck.
I love the effects around the edges - the tape? At least I assume it's supposed to be tape. That's what it looks like, anyway. I also like the weird blotchy thing you've got going on through the entire image - it makes it look like maybe the page that the picture was previously on (oh, yeah - I didn't mention that it looks like a photo torn out of an old scrapbook, but I meant to) had gotten wet at some point and the moisture seeped through to the picture.
...damn. Like, really? Usually I tear you apart with little nitpicky bullshit (and sometimes not-so-nitpicky shit) when you ask for a critque, because I know you won't hold it against me and that's generally the best way to go about improving something, but I don't think I can tear you apart for this one. The only thing I could possibly bitch about would be the white background...if you're feeling ambitious, maybe you'd want to try and do something with the white, because that looks WAY to fucking new and perfect, but I don't know if you really want that to be a part of the image or if you're just using that because you wanted to make the tape-ish effect extend beyond the boundaries of the actual image. So my only suggestions would really be: A) do something to the white because it's kind of jarringly different from the rest of the image and definately does not fit into the "aged" look (maybe transform it into a scrapbook page, or the corner of a little kid's mirror, or a bookcover, or a flyer, or something), or B) get rid of the white altogether.
But that's my only real complaint. Kudos.

okay, it is tape, but i don't like that you weren't sure if it was tape. can i clarify it somehow?
yeah, i tried making the background a greyish, but... maybe i'll try like a sepia-toned one? i'm just afraid it'll make the picture blend in. or maybe i'll scrap it all together. but i get where you're coming from with it.
ugh. i'm going to upload another or two later, and i really need you to help me with them -____- i
and whatthefuckunicorns is right. story of my life...

It'd be more clear that it were tape if it were taped TO something. That's why I was unsure. Also, because you said "experimenting with new brushes" and I wasn't positive if it was just some strange brush effect that just happened to look like tape; you know me, I'm photoshop retardant.
For the background - maybe add a faint texture? So it looks like matt board, maybe? And I still stand by the statement that the white looks funny and misplaced.
