Description
Another portrait of my character Grace. This was done in Photophop because after an update my version of Paint Tool SAI stopped working. I will need to get used to a different program for now, so it might take longer than usual for me to post something new.
Also SAI uses its own image type to save files you cannot open with other programs which is why I lost basically all of my other sketches and work in progress I had at the moment. Yeah, that just means I'll take a while to get everything sorted out so the prizes for the contest will take me a bit more time as well, sorry.
Anyways, this was an practice piece to get a feeling for how it works. The brushes are different but it's quite interesting and also easier to get some texture with them.
If you know any drawing program that is very similar to Paint Tool SAI and the way its brushes work, I'd love to try that out (would be easier than getting used to a completely different program).

I don't know how much this is like SAI, but I found Manga Studio EX5 works pretty well. Has the good of both Photoshop and Manga Studio EX4. At least the color selection tool looks like SAI.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it. Do you think that the brushes in Manga Studio blend very well? A problem I have with PS is that the brushes with relatively sharp edges blend very badly.

If you mean something along the lines of anti aliasing along the edges, there are multiple settings along a scale you can use (I think density and opacity are the key ones). I wouldn't know as much since I use the curve tool to do my contour lines which I erase in the final product.

No, I was talking of the way the brushes react to each other while colouring. Lines work quite the same in most programs, although none of the ones I tried were as smooth as in SAI.

Like what happens when you color over an existing mark?

I think the brushes should blend if you set anti aliasing and opacity levels low enough. But I don't have any experience in this area to say for sure.
