Isle of Sagittari Prelude Event: Prompt 3 - Devotion
Prompt 3 - Devotion
Some centaurs are whispering about the wrath of gods. That whatever is making their home isle turn against them is a result of angered deities.
Depict your centaur attending or performing rituals to appease whatever powers are afflicting their isle. They can also consult deities with other aspects related to their upcoming ordeals.
Nevora had more of an intellectual interest in the divine than anything else. A lifetime growing up along the coast gave her a healthy respect for the forces of nature and if she were to ask for any powers that be for advice or mercy it would be of the ocean and storms.
Between the earthquakes and the storms swallowing taurs, Nevora thought it was time to visit the altar sheltered by the cave.
At high tide the foam washed in under the red rock, bathing offerings and taking whatever the sea deemed worthy. Nevora had no idea who had set up the marble block halfway in but no matter how strong the storm, the ocean never claimed it, only weathered the edges and polished it.
Today there was a fresh tasseled cloth on top on which rested a few shells, decorated driftwood, fresh kelp, and a horde of sea glass. Sunlight through the opening overhead shone across the offerings and the glass sparkled. There was even a crystal vase resting at the center of the altar. It winked as the light glanced off it, just beyond the reach of sunbeams.
Nevora rubbed the water-polished shell she had chosen from her collection. The pearlescent inside glittered even in the shade. Would this be enough?
She bowed her front end down and cupped her clam seashell offering before her. She took a deep breath.
Dear...spirit? What do I say to the great spirit of the ocean? Do I address you like a god? 'Your Majesty' like a king?...Dear spirit, recently taur are experiencing troubled times. Much upheaval has come to our isle and we are long ignorant to the danger beyond the mist from the time of our ancestors. If you could offer some...advice? Guidance? Anything to give us a rope to hold in the storm, solid ground though the quakes, or let us know what we did to upset you, I would...well, I've spent my whole life so far near the water. You know me. Ask what you will. Amen? Thank you.
Nevora kissed the top of the shell and leaned over to place it on the cloth.
The crystal vase rattled and Nevora jerked back.
WOOSH!
A single turquoise wave erupted from the top of the violet vessel, water streaming along it. It curled towards her almost like a tongue, foam cresting the tip.
Nevora jerked back and her mouth popped open.
The little wave hovered just above the lip of the crystal vessel, the water still streaming around its form. A pulsing glow surrounded it. The edges flared out, reminding Nevora of the manta rays she had seen at a distance.
The glow pulsed again and Nevora frowned.
The third time Nevora noted it was the same pattern.
Was the ocean...talking to her??
