Lol, I like Dragonball especially the earlier versions of the manga. I Think you might just like vol. 1 to ten 'cause they're all about humor, and crazy ideas. Nothing at all like the "Z" arc.

I like actually kinda love the old style of season one and also kinda two and three but after that the style just more and more eyepinching until now it's downright hideous! 's style is waaaay better. She's awesome.

Maybe I'd like it too. In fact, I totally should read at least some of it, because I'm quite a shounen fan and Dragonball must have been the main inspiration for the popular shounen mangakas nowadays. I just really can't stand Akira Toriyama's style, even though it's extremely unique. He did the character designs in one of my favourite video games as well.

Lol. I prefer the slightly more realistic-ish anime art style, like... Wolf's Rain. Yeah, that looked quite nice. I also liked Cowboy Bebop's style a lot. 8D

I think you would. The drawing style is WAAAY differnet and the story is crazy. The story is about a young boy, who seems to be confused as to his age since he keeps changing it, and has a long, furry, brown tail. He lives alone in the mountains, and has never really met anyone other than his grandfahter who passed away a few years ago. On the road home, he walks right in front of a moving car, and thinking it's a monster attacks it. The girl driving it, a fiery teenager called Bulma, gets pissed and proceeds shooting at him. But the the bullets just bounce off leaving him with only minor bruises.

After strange introductions, the boy, Goku, finds out that she is in fact a girl, and his grandfather said to always be nice to girls. So he invites her home to her to his small hut, and there she finds out that he has a "Dragonball". She tells him that she's been searching for them ever since she found one in the attic, and learned that when all seven are together, a magical dragon appears, and grants one wish. However, Gokiu's DB is the only thing he has left of his grandfather and he refuses to give it up. She fibs him into believing that onc the wish is granted he can have it back good as new, though she knows that they in fact turn to stone for a year and scatter to random places all over the globe.

He agrees to come along, and proves to be handy as his insane strength saves them from monsters and bandits. However his limitless power also gives him a seemingly limitless appitite, which provides for many hilarious situations, not least of which is him driving everyone crazy by constantly complaining about being hungry, and cleaning out restaurants.

As they journey they meet many crazy characters both friend and foe, like Oolong: a small gejinka-ish pig, who can transform into anything, and has a very perverted mind. Yamcha: a rogue bandit who's deadly afraid of women and has a knack for fighting. Kamesennin: a perverted old man, who calls himself "Lord of the turtles", and is an old martial arts champion.

Crazy villains like the Red Ribbon army (with one crazy character after another) and Emperor Pilaf and his minnions all of whom aim for world domination with the help of the dragonballs, but never counted on the little boy with the unearthly strength and naivite that borderlines stupidity, or his crazy friends.

Ah those were the days. Cute, funny, witty, creative, wierd, insane, and full of the naughty humor that only the Japanese can truely pull off.


Funny, I wasn't too crazy abut the styles myself. O_o

Haha, okay, I'll check it out after I finish the GodChild manga (that one is SICK, but I kinda like it, horror shoujo, woo~).
It sounds pretty good from what you wrote about it. I actually know a few things about Son Goku from Saiyuki, since Saiyuki was inspired by the same Chinese legend as DB. Judging from your description about DB's Goku, I guess he's quite similar to Saiyuki's Goku. Even though the story is totally different. Son Goku also appears in one of Hiromu Arakawa's mangas, she loves dealing with China and Chinese stuff in her stories. Arakawa's Goku is a white talking monkey with extreme strength, though.

Great! I really think you'll like it actually, and teh story of Dragonball and lots of it characters were heavily inspired by that very legend, and Son Goku was originally gonna be all ape, but then ended up with just the tail.

I've never heard of Sayuki, any good?

I think I'll pass on the God Child thing.

I read the first 10 chapters of Dragon Ball today. Hahaha OMG, it's hilarious!! XDD I really like it so far, I didn't expect it would be this perverted (though in a cute way). I can also tell that the author of One Piece must have been inspired by this, the mood reminds me of OP (also, Luffy = Son Goku, Nami = Bulma), but OP is less funny and not perverted. DB's silliness is quite refreshing after a serious and disturbing series like GodChild, hehe. Thanks for recommending it.

Eh, Saiyuki is definitely not the best anime (and manga) ever, but not the worst either. It's about 4 young guys - a monk, two youkai and Son Goku who is belived to be a youkai as well, but later he turns out to be more than a mere demon - who travel to the west (India?) to prevent the rebirth of some demon god and of course they meet some others along the way, who don't want them to succeed. That's pretty much all the storyline is about.
I kinda liked the characters and their interactions. Sanzo is a grumpy short tempered arrogant jerk despite being a sacred monk, Goku is a naive simple minded kid who wants to eat all the time (definitely not as naive as DB-Goku, tho XDD), Gojyo is a womanizer half youkai who loves gambling, drinking and picking fights with Goku and Hakkai is an all around nice guy with a horrible past and a little white pet dragon that can turn into a jeep. 8D (That dragon is so cute, look at 0:53: [link] )
Saiyuki can be somewhat entertaining because of the main characters, but it gets kind of dull and repetitive very soon, since they just keep going on a never-ending journey and meet all kinds of boring unoriginal minor characters and enemies. Also, the animation of the first Saiyuki series (Gensomaden) is HORRIBLE (it's a 10 years old relatively long series after all), the fight scenes look like some crappy slideshow. XD; All in all, it's a mediocre anime in my opinion.

I finished GodChild today. I have to admit, I ended up really liking it. Aaaah, the plot twists!! And there were many times I was like "Uhh, oookay, THAT WAS NOT CREEPY AT ALL... D: D: D: *shudder*"
The main character reminded me of Lelouch. Sorta. Aside from the fact that Cain doesn't have any supernatural power.
It was disturbing but good.

Know it? I actually have it on DVD. I only saw part of it, cause, the machine spazed out, and I couldn't the remote, and so couldn't change to Japanese. I really like the storyline, but that has got to be one of the worst dubbing jobs I've EVER SEEN! DX; Whatever you do DON'T watch the English version! It's os aweful I cringe just thinking about it.


But I defintely liked the art and story, so I hope to around to actually rewatching and finishing it.


Now, I must insist that you watch the anime called Denno Coil on animecrazy! It's one of the best animes I've EVER seen!

Higashi no Eden? It's good, but short. Sometimes a bit boring. In a nutshell, it deals with the popular "what do you do when you get power to change your country/world?" topic. Except this one is more realistic and less twisted than for example Code Geass (the "power" in HnE means money and a super computer system and the story is set in nowadays' Japan and America). The series is only 11 episodes long plus there is a movie which continues the story. And there will be another movie. I still haven't watched the 1st movie, tho.

Oh, cool! I don't want to watch the Angel Sanctuary anime, but I'm considering reading the manga (I heard the anime was crap compared to the manga). It's by the same mangaka who did Fairy Cube and Count Cain / GodChild and they were good. I don't particularly like her art style, but Kaori Yuki seems to really know how to use cool twists in her stories. Her characters are pretty interesting too.

I heard about Denno Coil, but judging from the description, it didn't seem too interesting to me. I may check it out but right now, I'd like to finish Gintama and then start either the 2nd season of Gundam 00 (the end of the 1st season got me hooked ) or Bersek. I'd like to watch Berserk since... forever.
I also started watching Princess Tutu, I watched 5 episodes and I wasn't impressed. Then later I watched another 5 episodes and I still don't like it. For some reason, it was quite predictable to me so far. I really don't like how Princess Tutu appears at the end of each episode and solves everything. This makes the series a bit lame, predictable and monotonic. I have to admit I'm not very fond of "magical girl" animes.

The description I saw didn't really "describe" anything, let alone give a good insight to it. Besides, it's better to see it without knowing too much.

Yeah PT is probably not for you, but I do think it was an interresting and sweet twist on the whole fairy tale genre, and it's definately one of the better "magical girl" series out there.


Anyway, once you're done with Gintama and Berserk, you really must see Denno Coil it is one of the best animes I've EVER seem and that's not something I say often.

Lol, okay. It's pretty short.

I finished Gintama yesterday (OMG longest anime series I've ever finished). I'm still scared of Berserk (it intrigues and scares me at the same time) and although I absolutely love the battle theme music, I still haven't started watching the actual anime. I ended up starting Dennou Coil instead. I watched only the first 2 eps so far, the first one was pretty intriguing, the 2nd was less interesting, but still not bad. The animation is awesome, my only problem with it is that the characters look so similar. XD;

Also, I never said Princess Tutu was bad, now that I'm halfway through, I'd like to know how it ends. XDD I might like it more if I was 10 years younger, but it's still sweet. I like how every episode follows a certain fairy tale theme and the classical music adds a very cool atmosphere to the whole anime. And I like Fakir, even though he's probably the most predictable character to me, but maybe that's because I like this character archetype in general. Ahiru annoyed me for a while, but I guess she's funny and cute.

Berserk is a fantasy anime/manga (the "classic" medieval age fantasy with armored soldiers, big swords and monsters), I heard it's more brutal than Elfen Lied, but really awesome.

I finished Berserk. In just 3 days, my newest record, I think. 8D It wasn't THAT brutal. I kinda liked it, though I've never seen an anime with such a fucked up, surreal, tragic, brutal and unsatisfying ending. They practically finished it right in the middle of the climax of the story!! Aaaargh!! DX
