Well, I think a few expressions in English are very strange. Though there are german expression, especially in dialects, that you simply cannot translate into other languages. ...

Yeah, there's a bit of a culture barrier.
I know some German expressions, though. I have family from there.

Oh really ? you speak german? Which expressions do you know?

BlazerkerPack In reply to Amarthrien [2017-01-27 19:52:40 +0000 UTC]
Well, I only know a few phrases, really. My grandmother used to say some german expressions a lot, so I'd pick up on a few.
She'd usually say "I only understand the train station" a lot. She said it was a German phrase. I looked it up and It basically means "It's all greek to me". She'd also say "Mein Leben" when she'd get upset with my grandfather at times.

Amarthrien In reply to BlazerkerPack [2017-01-27 20:18:18 +0000 UTC]
I think the correct phrase would be "I only understand train station", which would mean: Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof, saying that you don't understand anything.
That's a german saying.
Where I come from, in Baden, next to france, some people say: Dem zeig ich, wo der Frosch die Locken hat. Could be translated to: I'll show him where the frog has locks. Or they are refering to that old stories from Durlach (well, the really old people, since Durlach is medieval), like the one of Karlle mit der Dasch, High German: Karl mit der Tasche. They are speaking of one of our margraves, whose name was Karl. He renovated the medieval castle, but he didn't trust anyone with his money, so he would care it all with him all the times in a bag to pay the craftsmen. Thus he's called: "Karl with the bag"

There are plenty. Do you have any preferences? Like a certain state or region?

Somewhere green.
I don't see green often because I live in a drought zone.

I'm not opposed to them. Just as long as they aren't like Los Angeles, I'll enjoy them~

I don't know how LA is, but I don't think there are a lot cities like it.

LA is kind of hectic and the people aren't very friendly, I'm afraid.

Well, I can't foresee what people you'll meet... But usually people are polite at least.
I'd recommend middle to late spring or summer. Do you want to visit the sea?
π: 0 β©: 1
BlazerkerPack In reply to Amarthrien [2017-01-28 18:48:29 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't mind it, though I do already live near the ocean.
Is the water warm there?
π: 0 β©: 1
Amarthrien In reply to BlazerkerPack [2017-01-28 19:09:23 +0000 UTC]
Depends, in summer probably, in the rest of the year, rather not. In the Eastern Sea the water is usually warmer than in the Northern Sea. The Northern Sea is a little bit rougher.

BlazerkerPack In reply to Amarthrien [2017-01-28 19:14:29 +0000 UTC]
I see.
I don't go in the water often, really. Kinda scared of the ocean, to be honest...
But that's besides the point. I love seeing the sun set over the sea~
π: 0 β©: 1
Amarthrien In reply to BlazerkerPack [2017-01-28 19:18:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, we don't really have that a lot I guess. Because, the sun never sets behind the Eastern or Northern Sea.
If you don't want to visit the sea, you can visit cities, forests, mountains,....

I'd like that. Nature is so lovely, isn't it~?
π: 0 β©: 1
Amarthrien In reply to BlazerkerPack [2017-01-28 20:17:46 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it is. I'll recommend you the black forest, especially if you're fantasy interested. If I didn't know better I'd bet Tolkien found the inspiration for Mirkwood there. Even on sunny days it can happen that you need artifical light, because it is sometimes really black on the bottom level.
I have some family there. i'm not sure if they still keep pigs. ...
There's a valley they call HΓΆllental (Hell's valley), at the end is a lovely old village called Himmelreich (Heaven's realm). If you're interested in nature, this would be a good place. I think there are some people renting horses too.

Wow, a forest with no light? Sounds a bit spooky.
I'll try and check it all out~

You definitely should, there's good water and herbs, and of course mushrooms, but for those you maybe should take a book with you,

But I would recommend you a few cities though. For example Hamburg is great! They have more canals and bridges as venice and you can reach almost anything with a small boat. My great-uncle, who lives there, has one and once took us for a trip.
Of course, Berlin is great too, even if I only heard from it, must be nice.
Oh, you could visit us at Karlsruhe too. Next to our baroque palace there's the supreme court, the Bundesverfassungsgericht. And we have a little pyramid on the market place too
But for this I would recommend to wait a few years until the building sites for our underground are finished.
Besides If you visit Germany you can visit France and Italy too, if you take a little more time with you. France is not far from Karlsruhe and such a great country. And Italy is not that far away. Flying to Rome takes only one and a half hour.

Hamburg sounds lovely~!
Karlsruhe sounds nice too, but what do you mean by "building sites underground"?

We're getting some kind of tube that nobody wanted. But thanks to the last conservative Mayor you can't see the pyramid now.
