As you can remember, Stas lost his wife in the beginning of the war. But he continues wearing his wedding ring.
I must mention that, being orthodox believers, Russians wear wedding rings on the right hand. However, Stas has to change his hand if he plans to be a spy in Germany.
And I had to make a decision on which finger to put his ring.

Только Штирлиц - лицо серьезное, мне это было скучновато, мне нужно было истеричку смастерить) Поэтому второй прототип Стаса - молодой человек моей сестры, кстати, тоже Стас, только Одасинский)) Большая часть характера содрана с его, даже внешне сходство есть))

And I LOVE the details with the rings; I've been told that the right hand is considered the widows hands; but honestly, I don't think there is any strict rule on how to wear rings (apart from it belonging to the ring-finger

I know some general rules about wearing rings so the thing you told is smth new for me. Coz orthodox believers continue wearing the ring after the death of beloved one. But also the owner can take it away. Only two ways of what to do.

I don't think it's a specific 'rule' as such, although I kind of do like the notion of switching hand under those circumstances.
Ooh, and wearing it around his neck, is incredibly cute - I dig that idea absolutely.
