I'm trying to accelerate with commishes, but still not very successful ;___;
However, here's another commish for JW.BIH (gorenije ), that shows us a dramatical moment of the relationship between their ocs Patricia and Johann from the project Medusenhaupt.

In short, Johann starts to understand that he has dedicated, like, 'his best years' to Patty who never loved him sincerely and even couldn't be a person with who he would have something to talk about. When being younger, he never paid attention to this, as the passion she gave him was the main thing he liked her company for, if not the only reason why he decided to be with her. But over years, the value system tends to change, as you know. Disappointment is one of the two things that Johann feels now. The second thing is guilt - towards his wife who knows about her husband's sins (many of his sins) but keeps loving him no matter what.

There is a possibility that the beautiful but unsmart and mercantile doll Patty feels towards Johann something deeper than what she used to feel towards her other men, as JW says, which is why in this picture it's clear that she's trying to keep him with apology in her eyes. But this moment takes place before what she appreciates in their relationship becomes unavailable.
She's one of those women who love male attention, money and pleasure most of all. And the circumstances that these two are supposed to go through in the story will show that her feelings aren't strong enough to stay with Johann in a difficult time when he needs it the most.

I enjoyed working on this picture a lot. I even believe that this is one of my best attempts to draw humans at all.
Also, the first time in my life I used ink pencils for some details in this work. Hell yeah, ink pencils rule
Other tools that I used: brown, gray, black and white inks, regular colored pencils, watercolor pencils.

Enjoy~

You are certainly right, this may be among your best humans; but not only for the refined anatomy and tonal values, but the expression of the scene as a whole.

I tried guessing the context before reading the description, and for some reason got stuck on Johann's intact eye. There is something about it that conveys both sadness and discomfort, as if while he tries to present an untouchable macho image on multiple planes - turning his back to Patricia who obviously wants his attention, and putting his gruff side fronted by the cataract between himself and the viewer - there is something gnawing him. Something he feels too weak to deal with, and is maybe unable to altogether, and it shames him to think of it.
The guess was general, but reading the description, not so far off. A whole lot conveyed in one eye.

Well done.

I'm happy that you've pointed at Johann's blind eye! Because placing him in the sheet with this particular side of his face turned to us was done specially~

Once I saw it, could not let go of the impression there was something at work there, and the description seemed to confirm it.

From first impression...

These merry boys.

... got the impression Medusenhaupt was something in the vein of Sven Hassel, mostly about soldiers dealing with the less often shown side of the madness of war; the one with less horror and atrocities and more creeping insanity, stress, and desperation to flee tedium. But from the look here, there seems to be something way more complex at work.

Well, JW has a really complex project. Most often when they share details with me I don't understand how they are going to make all them work together, anything missing. And so, if they manage to make everything work, I'm going to worship them as a genius.
I tend to believe though that in fact they've created a very huge amount of info that isn't going to be used in their graphic novel but that just lets them see the world of Medusenhaupt more volumetric.
It's great in fact, as figuring out the most minor details helps to 'feel' your creatures. I tend to figure out details I'm not going to use in my books, too. But the problem is that, as a person who may be a helper in JW's work, I honestly barely understand what is canon and what is additional. Especially now that they've re-figured out pretty a lot and re-mastered the whole concept

But what you've described takes place in their story too, yeah.
