Kratom is a herb originating in southeast Asia, a relative of the coffee plant. It has a long tradition of use in folk medicine there, and has some opoid and psychoactive properties. It is said to help with drug withdrawal symptoms, as it can occupy the same receptors in the brain that heroin does. In the west, it has acquired some notoriety as a "virility-enhancing" substance, and the FDA and other authorities have been hot to ban it for their usual control-freak reasons, but have been getting a significant amount of resistance over it.
