And this one too was bought by me at the ComicCon this past Saturday! My son went around showing it to everyone! He loves the whole pic but even more than that he's so happy you included the bee! And he pointed out that you did Zim's hand really well! ^.^

This pic inspired me to sketch GIR while I was in a meeting this week: well it might be GIR; it could be a girlfriend for GIR--there's a dress involved...and a bow.

So, how did you become so good at the art you do? This one is a wonderful water color, but I know you do other media. What have you done to get to your level?

I don't draw or paint nearly enough and should do it more but, mostly, you just practice. What really helped, though, was life drawing. Using charcoal to draw with gave me a lighter touch that I was able to use in watercolor. Or maybe it was the other way around. I don't remember anymore. Messing around with colors helps a lot. I guess I used to do watercolors when I was a kid. I do a very blocky kind of style with them that I'd actually like to change. I am terrible at color palettes.

What do you mean about color palettes? Holding them, making them?
Also do you do all of this by yourself? It's been "interesting" being in this class I'm attending...

Oh, I just usually use the same colors over and over again. I would like to be more experimental. I don't think I'm very good at picking colors.
I used to take classes. My watercolor teacher was this guy here: [link] He is amazing. He taught life drawing and typography, too, two of the most difficult and rewarding classes I've ever taken.

Ah, for this palette thing from what I know about you: it's all about motivation...if you feel like doing it, you'll do it. If not, meh...
That's great about being rewarded for your effort! Inner satisfaction is priceless! Do you have any example of your typography to show?
I would like to paint people, but I don't see that as realistic at the moment...work my way up to it...find people who don't mind getting paint all over them...

The best way to try it out is, rather than work up to it, just have fun and dive into it. I've been painting watercolors in my life drawing group and it's been really fun. The first time I tried it in class was actually the first time I had ever tried it without penciling in the figure and it turned out so nice I keep doing it!
