Description
Based on the novel of the same name by Rob Reid.Aliens have always seen themselves as far superior than humans. But, there has been one thing humans are better at than extraterrestrials…music. Aliens have tried to follow suit, but it always ends up sounding like bad frequency transmissions. When aliens found Earth music in 1977 (also known as Year Zero) it changed the universe forever making time start over and from there forward being the stepping stones in a new era of the time and space. However, copyright laws here on Earth made things complicated, bringing a startling realization to extraterrestrials. They now owe us more money than the universe can handle, and they have a bone to pick with Earth.
Two aliens known as Frampton (Bill Hader) and Carly (Kate Beckinsale) tap the industry's top entertainment and copyright lawyer, Nick Carter (Brian Vliet) to help settle the universe's debt to Earth. If a settlement can not be made, Earth will be destroyed. Nick brushes their warning off and goes on about his day as if it were some strange encounter with two nut jobs. Nick is with his friend (hopeful lover)/neighbor, Manda Shark (Lina Leandersson) when Carly and Frampton interrupts. An impending attack on Earth will take place and they need their help immediately. Nick finally believes them and decides to join their mission to save the planet, and more importantly to the aliens, music.
Trying to stop Nick, Manda, and the aliens, Frampton and Carly are a sinister parrot (Christoph Waltz) and a strange looking vacuum cleaner (Alan Rickman). If Nick, Manda, and the aliens fail the universe will have to find new ways to entertain themselves. Besides, who wants to listen bad music anyway?
