Description
Here we have the party of a D&D game I'm running, known as The Dragoneers, by !Please make sure to show the artist some love at their posting of the commission here: www.deviantart.com/llythium-ar…
The characters are, of course, property of their respective players. I'll add them here if they request it.
The Dragoneers
Students of Seraph's Vale Academy for Adepts, in the Seraph's Vale Ward in the sole city of Empyrean, Vivex. In Vivex, Adepts, sometimes called Dragonblooded...humanoids with the potential and talent for greatness...are registered by the government and trained in Academies across the massive city. Here in Seraph's Vale, the elite Seraph's Vale Academy is centered around the tower of Kereska, the Draconic Goddess of Magic who, along with the rest of her kin among the Draconic Pantheon, left Vivex to humanity after their defeat in the Dragon War around a millennium prior. The Dragoneers are one adventuring party of a class of twenty, including The Seraph's Shadows, The Guardians of Hearts, and the Light's Chosen. Before being assigned to each other in their class, these parties typically had nothing to do with each other, and the same is true of The Dragoneers. However, the wisdom of Professor Auldren Porter, their "Adventuring 101" teacher, has proven itself time and again, and as the months of this school year have worn on, The Dragoneers have become a truly formidable adventuring party. They adopted their name from the Wyvernhide gear many of them now wear, after taking on a powerful Wyvern and its spawn early in their adventuring career. It's not like they'd ever be able to take on a real Dragon after all...the old gods are gone, and a Dragon hasn't been seen in two generations.
Valeria Alcrux - Protector Aasimar Conquest Paladin/Hexblade Warlock
The middle child of three of the noble Alcrux family, Valeria is proud heir to a legacy of strength and power. Protectors of Argent Bay and keepers of Ohmarcaniss Toma. A mixed Human and Elf bloodline, blessed with a Celestial ancestor that brings about Aasimar throughout the family tree, the Alcrux clan have been magically gifted by both light and shadow through their ancestral connection with the Shroud Arcanum “Sight”. Only those who have expressed their Aasimar traits are considered to be potential inheritors of Toma, and unlike other families there is generally no choice to be made: the wielder can easily foresee the best inheritor. While the current matriarch of House Alcrux, the blind sorceress Vildryn Alcrux, is largely reclusive and humorless these days, she and her husband Victor were once comrades of Frederic de Leon and Dromin Chaq, until the fall of the last dragon, where Victor gave his life using Ohmarcaniss Atonus after Dromin fell in combat, using its power to shield the Prime Minister and his family, along with countless innocent civilians and fallen knights, from the dragon’s assault. Valeria is destined for greatness. She knows it, and she's going to make damn sure you know it, too. While exploring the ruins of Kereska's Aetherium, a structure belonging to the old Goddess buried deep under the city, the party made use of a machine that infused Valeria's longsword with a long-stored soul trapped in a crystal. Calling itself Ruin, the spirit in the blade has granted Valeria even more power, and more importantly knowledge, as they two now journey together, seeking to learn more of Ruin's origin and past.
Reetet - Huden Gallus Sun Soul Monk
Reetet is a native of the neighboring Okara Ward of Vivex, and a member of the Redfeather Militia, a predominantly Gallus military organization that act as protectors of the western regions of Vivex, overseeing the wards of Okara and Mistveil as well as the border with the Lawless Ward. Permitted to act independently as long as they observe the existing rule of Vivex and the Five Knightly Orders, the Okaran force is one to be reckoned with. Reetet, along with the Mistveil Vulpin native Kenji Kazama, were sent to Seraph's Vale Academy as part of the Redfeather agreements with the government of Vivex, where they are training hard as representatives of Okara. Kenji, however, has a long held familial grudge against the Redfeathers, expressed primarily as aggression and disdain for his old training partner Reetet. Reetet himself is a no-nonsense leader type, though to hear most others tell it he has a HUGE stick up his arse. Primary driver of the party's truck The Dragon Wagon, as Valeria doesn't drive for herself and the others have clearly proven they can't be trusted behind the wheel, Reetet keeps the key on his person at all time.
Trixie Bedlam - Human Gunslinger Fighter
Guns. More guns. Trixie's got ALL the guns. A flamboyant gambler, loudmouthed expert sharpshooter, and all around badass, Trixie is predominantly made of grit, sass, and luck. Behind all of that, though, is Trixibelle Bedlash, daughter of merchants and youngest of three siblings, out there making a name for herself and a living for her and her family. She dreams of things like being the hero of a penny dreadful novel, and acts like it. While her often reckless behavior has gotten her into a fair share of pickles, but she's here for ADVENTURE, and that's part of it! She's generally proven more than capable of shooting her way out of any problems she's gotten herself into, and is actually quite the silver tongue as well, when she's able to get in a word over Illani. She's struck up a solid relationship with both siblings of the noble Van Horn family, one of which teaches at Seraph's Vale, the other of which is a renegade living out in the Lawless Ward. Both are expert gunslingers, and have the kind of swagger and bearing that Trixie aspires to. One of her revolvers is a gift from the renegade twin, while the massive multibarreled shotgun on her back was liberated from a shark man named Rip. The rest of her guns are her own, but she's always looking to expand her collection.
Illani Beste - Mapach Night Cleric
Illani is an acolyte of The Knave, Goddess of Trickery, Wealth, Darkness, the Night, the Dead, and Fate. She wears the black-feathered mantle of their knightly order, Ordo Corvus, also known as The Crows, and is the youngest and newest member of the Seraph's Vale cell of Crows, led by her mentor and sometimes maternal figure Taera Amarthonnen, along with wielder of the hexblade Demise, Krystal "Krye" Barnes, phantom trickster Drache Ulrich, and jovial Halfling cleric of the Grave Hiroka Shimazu. Together they protect Seraph's Vale from any Undead threats that arise. However, Illani never asked for this life...she never really knew her own parents, her earliest memories coming from scrounging on the streets in the Beastkin-populated Outer Wards of Vivex. She took to theft, and wound up falling in with a gang of thieves led by a Vulpin named Faarick, who would become a bit of a father figure to the young Illani, and from which she developed her accent and many of her mannerisms. Faarick was a thief, but he was a kindhearted one, but his right hand man, the muscular Strig Mister Haash, was not. When Faarick vanished during a job, Haash took over, and things started to change. Illani's first love left the gang out of fear, and soon Illani's softness was deemed problematic by Haash. When he no longer needed her services as a lookout, she was left holding the bag after a raid on an Ordo Corvus vault. Thanks to Taera, who identified her spark, she was given service over prison, and has found a new way to live...even if she'd rather just live a peaceful life at home raising bees with a nice girl to cuddle. The loudest mouth of the party, and an incorrigible troll and trickster, Illani and Scarf tend to be partners in crime more often than not.
Scarf - Goblin Swarmkeeper Ranger
Ostensibly from one of the sewer-dwelling goblin tribes, Scarf found herself lost and alone during a venture out away from her tribe one day...but she didn't let that worry her too much. She had other friends, after all. The bugs talked to her. The fireflies danced when she called. And of course Trundles was her ever stalwart companion. She'd scrounge up on the surface for food regularly, and became rather fond of the scraps of baked goods from a Halfling named Odo, who noticed the scrawny little goblin and took pity on her, starting to offer day-old muffins on the regular...until the goblin was then caught by the Hobgoblin Sergeant Herruk of Ordo Pax, who, at Odo's insistence, let the little goblin go with a warning after she was caught stealing a pie from Odo's cart. From then on the two kept a subtle eye out for the goblin, and it was Herruk that would gift Scarf her namesake and most prized possession: a long, warm, soft purple scarf that kept her comfortable during the chill winter. Eventually Herruk would be promoted to Captain, and Odo would open up a permanent shop next to Seraph's Vale Academy, and Scarf...would really start to show her Adept's spark. Herruk managed to convince the little goblin to register as an Adept and enroll in an Academy, and with the Captain's good work, Scarf was accepted to Seraph's Vale. There, she's bonded quite well with her party, and not just because of the Sovereign Glue. Despite bringing exactly the kind of chaotic trouble one might expect from a goblin, she's proven herself reliable in times of need time and again. When the party slew the Wyvern that earned them their name, she secreted away one of the eggs, and has been raising the hatchling wyvern in her absolute mess of a dorm room ever since. It's as chaotic as she is.
