Some tips: At the end, drawing with pencil is adding and reducing black or white, blending or mixing both of them. Basically, you play with lights and shadows, it can be with graphite or charcoal to increase the shadows or blank paper and erasing to increase the lights, everything else is a combination, modification or blending of both.

Search your own style, try testing different materials (pencils, graphite, drawing paper) and don't be disappointed if the result is not exactly what you expected to be.
It's not an easy path but with patience and passion you can't go wrong.
Remember the 'small' detail to enjoy while you are creating. A good portfolio opens doors and it only can be achieved with interesting creations. Besides, it reflects your signature. It's not easy to make something good if you are not enjoying the process. It's usually said that, the key of happiness is make what you really want and the key of success is that you like whatever you created. Have curious eyes!
