Description
Ala is the earth. Her name literally means "ground" in the native tongue of the Ibo, or Igbo tribe in West Africa. She is the greatest Alusi (deity) because she reigns over life and death. She is also believed to rule the Underworld- which, since she is the earth itself, makes a lot of sense. She carries the souls of all those who have gone before in her womb, and she judges the morality of mankind. The judgement bit didn't seem to fit in with the earth/underworld gig she had going, but then it turned out that she holds mankind accountable for their crimes because any action undertaken happens upon the earth (her body). You could say she takes it personally.
