After Anakin’s arm was severed by Count Dooku during the Battle of Geonosis, the Jedi attempted to reattach it they were unable to do so. Before the severed arm could be disposed of, Palpatine used his connections to secure it. He had the arm secretly sent to Exegol for future experimentations.

After Palpatine’s body was destroyed by Maul at the end of the Clone Wars, his spirit retreated to Exegol. Shortly there afterwards, Palpatine sensed Anakin’s death when the young Jedi transferred his Force energy to save his wife Padme and his unborn children. Originally distraught by the loss of his ideal apprentice, Sidious saw a means to reclaim him. Using the cells from Anakin’s severed arm, the Sith Eternal developed a clone of the deceased Chosen One to carry out their will. From the moment the clone could stand, Sidious immersed him in the Dark Side of the Force alongside his daughter Vindetta. Sidious bestowed the name Vader upon the clone of Anakin. Years later, Sidious order Vader’s body be grafted with a special kind of armor so as to strike fear into his enemies’ hearts. In addition, the armor was painfully grafted to Vader’s body so as to deepen his connection to the Dark Side. Sidious had the apprentice he had always desired. If he had not merged his spirit with Vindetta’s body, Sidious feared that Vader would have the power to overthrow him.

As the Sith Eternal was unleashed upon the galaxy, Vader led their forces under the will of Vindetta who had absorbed Sidious’ spirit into her body. The Rebels striving to restore the Republic felt the force of the Sith Eternal as they made their way through the galaxy. General Padme Amidala, who had by this time mastered Anakin’s powers he had bestowed upon her, led the rebels against the new threat. The confrontations eventually brought Padme face to face with Vader. As they fought, Padme managed to slice off Vader mask revealing the face of the man whom she once loved much to her shock and horror.
