Description
You guys remember my first wolfquest art peice? Well, I made another one! This time, it features the founder of my wolfquest packs, Lark. Lark is the mother of the four alphas and their bonded gods/goddesses, and has a very large role in the history of not just her family tree, but all the packs within a large area. She was born in a pack known as the pack of flying feathers. Her mother, Raven, was the alpha of this pack, and was noble and wise. Lark and her brother, Falcon, grew up hearing stories about many legends, but their favorite story was called "The Rise of the Scarra".
This tale followed after a brave wolf known as the Scarra. In this wolf's time, a great plague known as "The Corruption" ravaged across the lands, driving wolves into a state of insanity and bringing them to attack and infect any healthy wolves they came across. The Scarra decided to unite all the packs living in the nearby territories, building up what was everyone now refers to as "the Scarra Union". With the Scarra in the position of power, the union was able to take down the Corruption by killing all infected wolves they could find. Soon enough, the Scarra found herself face to face with the last corrupted wolf, a mangled monster with a body choked and mutated by dark, thorny vines (these vines usually appeared on the bodies of corrupted wolves, and it seems like the infected is able to control them like tentacles). After a long battle, the Scarra gained the upper hand, and was finally able to defeat the beast. Afterwards, the packs split up again, but maintained aliances between each other.
Lark was very determined to be like the Scarra. She would often wander off, looking for some sort of problem to fix. Whenever she noticed an issue within the pack or out in the wilderness, she'd commit to solving that problem, even if it held no reward or benefit.
As Lark grew up, her mother seemed to start changing. She began to lose her noble aura, and became much more hostile and easily angered. She became very distant and irresponsible, especially after the birth of her second litter of pups. Lark and Falcon had to step in and take care of their little siblings to make sure they didnt starve to death. You could even say she was going insane.
On one of Larks adventures, she got caught in a human trap and was taken to a wildlife research base, where the humans put a radio collar around her neck and released her back to the wild. When she returned to the pack, Raven saw the collar and became furious. She declared Lark as a danger to the pack. According to her, the collar was a demonic device, and had posessive abilities that would control Lark's conciousness (which was absolutely incorrect, Raven was probably just looking for a way to get rid of Lark). She stated that Lark was a danger to her new pups. After a while of ranting on about demons and posession, she decided to drive Lark out of the pack and exile her. The rest of the pack was hesitant at first, but followed Raven's orders and chased Lark out of the territory.
Lark lived on her own for a few more years, wandering across the lands that not even the most desparate packs would want to claim. She kept up her habit of fixing problems she finds, but her eagerness to explore was starting to dwindle away. One day, she accidentally wandered into pack territory and found a young male wolf fighting a bear. She jumped in to help, and after driving off the bear, became friends with the wolf, who introduced himself as Dust. Dust noticed Lark had gotten a bad wound on her hind leg, and offered to hide her from his pack and supply her with food as she recovered. Lark lived under Dust's protection for a while, but she ended up getting found and attacked. However, Dust arrived and helped defend her, and they fled from the territory together. Dust knew that his pack wouldnt accept him back after he attacked his packmates, so he decided to stay with Lark in the unclaimed territories
After around one more year, the two young wolves ran into a group of wanderers who had joined together to create a pack of their own. This wanderer pack sheltered Lark and Dust, offering food and water.
One wolf, an elderly female named Dove, saw Lark and froze, and invited her to a chat. Dove told Lark that her old pack's founders had been alive during the reign of the Scarra Union, and that they had seen the Scarra in person.
And that Lark perfectly matched their description of the Scarra's appearance.
Dove was revealed as a prophet, and told Lark that the corruption hadn't gone away entirely. A few corrupted wolves had survived, and had been hiding for the past few centuries. But they had emerged from the shadows recently, and wolves around the territories were getting infected. Dove also told Lark that she was a reincarnation of the Scarra, and that she needed to unite the packs again to take down the corruption for real this time.
The rest of the story is basically a repeat of the legend, with a few twists here and there.
I hope this was interesting to read about! It took me a while to come up with and I'm happy to finally share the product with the world!
