Description Someone please... PLEASE tell me where I went wrong with this. I'm new to drawing landscapes on photoshop so any advice would be awesome.

EDIT: I've taken on some advice and posted the improved image.

Its a fictional planet, in a fictional solar system with 3 fictional moons (3rd moon not visible). Its the third planet in a solar system with fewer planets than our own.

This planet is pretty much like a giant Europa, 4 times the size of Earth. It's a rocky planet underneath with an active mantle and core. Sub-glacial oceans - warmed by volcanic activity - are relatively small compared to those on Earth, only found in pockets in the ice, and do not spread under the whole surface - ice reaches the crust in areas where the crust has formed mountains, and in low-lying areas of crust where there is too little volcanic activity to keep the temperature high enough for water to melt.

In some places the water tunnels up to the surface where heat rises from volcanic activity, causing the ice to crack and migrate slowly. Earthquakes may also cause cracking.

I was seen that many space arts have a fault like astrobodys lighted from many directions whereas there is only one light source ,or wrong size of them. I'm glad that your picture does not have any of them . Because of that it looks very realistic. Obviously

Thank you for your comment. I was hoping it would look like just one light source. Was a little worried it looked wrong.

Thank you for the favourite!

As long as you can survive temperatures of -219 degrees centegrade (during the day, far lower at night), complete lack of air pressure, no oxygen, no food and very little liquid water (which is toxic to drink as it contains deadly amounts of sulphuric acid and heavy metals), and no atmosphere to protect against solar radiation.

Yeah, it'll be fine!

From the small view I was so sure that was a glowing polar bear on the right, gah my eyesight is bad.

Anway, I like it. I'm a traditional painter so I can't really give you any tips on technique but a few tiny points to consider are:

Blend the glow of the galaxy so there isn't such a clear contrast between it and the surrounding sky.
Do something about the moon on the right, I guess it's too clear or something and looks like it's on the surface of the planet.

Apart from those two things there is nothing (in my opinion) wrong with the picture. But (and this is just me being picky) if it were me I'd have some kind of focal point on the planet, it's a really good landscape but it feels so empty.

Hm... yeah I see what you mean. I tried a kind of glimmer of light reflecting from the moon onto the planet's surface but now it looks embedded in the surface.

I'm not sure what you mean by blending the glow but I'll look into it. Thanks for your input.

By blending the glow I mean that how it is there's a very clear line between the glow the galaxy emits and the surrounding sky and maybe it'd help if that line wasn't so clear.

Maybe a few more darker shades would help... I'm not sure, either.

That's alright. I'll take your suggestion on board while I experiment a bit more with the picture. Thanks for the suggestion.

Very pretty. I love the color of the landscape, and the texture. My main critique would be that the moon on the bottom right draws a lot of attentions, for me, and I'm not sure if this is your intent. It seems like the moon is very clear, compared to the soft, less in focus, landscape. They just don't seem to fit together, plus the edges seem too well defined, perhaps the atmosphere would make the moon a little less clear from this angle? Not sure, just seemed that way to me Great work here!

I wanted to make the moons sharp because there is no atmosphere - but yes they don't really go together - I think I need to make the landscape sharper. That seems to be the general gist of everyone's suggestions. Thanks for helping me see a bit clearer what needs improved.

Well - I'm not in digital art, but I will do my best.
This landscape looks nice but well - quite boring - like ice desert.
Maybe try to look at some real worlds polar landscapes and try to copy some interesting features.
Shading and colouring is really good - you can just try to "soften" some border lines. Oh, and stars are not very visible.

The stars not being very visible was actually deliberate, just to let you know (sorry should have said that in the description) because they would IRL be faded by the moonlight and light on the planet, especially since its during the day.

Yeah, I understand its boring. I will take your advice and try loking at some real pictures of polar landscapes. The nature of ice is hard to draw from memory. Thanks for the advice

Let me start by saying that this is gorgeous so far!! Very pretty!! As for an critique, perhaps if it had more.....what is it called.......tone....details. Like the the snow/rock in the foreground especially the one to the left side of the screen could be developed more with more details to make it stand out. Right now, even though it is really good it could use a bit more details and development. My brain is totally failing me. I had the word when I saw the picture but it just fled me when I started typing. There are some landscape tutorials I've seen around and a good start would be here: [link]

Hoped that helped a bit!

Yeah, I think I understand where you're coming from - I just didn't know what sort of details to add, I didn't really know how to make it look like ice (IMO it looks too much like clouds). I'm going to use that link you gave me, it appears to have much more than just help with landscapes so thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Well, I don't know off the top of my head what it looks like but perhaps you could find a reference pic. I'm glad the link helped. Welcome.

Hmm...Looks pretty good....but you might want to put some more variation, and more stuff in the night sky above...

Hm... thanks for that. Maybe a milky streak of the galaxy acros the sky...?
