Description
Physical beauty cannot be assumed to correspond to moral beauty. Nor can it hide immorality. This is Mae, one of my older continuous characters in her most human-looking guise and now sporting some fancy new clothes. (Not that Mae wearing fancy clothes is new--it's kind of a trademark for her--but this is the first time that I've drawn her with this particular outfit.)
She's probably one of the most purely evil characters I've come up with; when it comes to nature vs. nurture, they both turned out pretty bad in her case.
Prismacolor markers with some photoshop for the border. I'm really loving these markers, although the scanned image has lost some of the intensity of color present in the original.

The original image (including border) is 6.5 x 7 inches, which should be the same size as when you do a fullview here.
The shadow's aren't intended to be realistic; inside the cloak is completely dark while the lightest portions of the trees tend to face inward toward her instead of being illuminated by any natural, directional light-source. The rocks are also colored so that the light patches fall on the tops of them or on the sides facing Mae. I'm not a particularly big fan of using realistic source-lighting unless I'm specifically aiming to do a high-realism drawing (which I rarely do).

While I can't enjoy your colouring, I can say I like the designs and little details. Your trees look very grim and dark, I love it! There's just something about irregular, pointy things. I guess they're cute.
As for WarpGhost's comment on the foliage. I do feel that the foliage on the kimono (which is outlined) looks a lot more part of the three than their real (higher) counterparts. You might want to draw versions of both on another piece of paper and see what comes out best. It might've just be a matter of scan-loss, but you never know for sure!
On the subject of the neck. Her neck is as long as her head. You don't really see it at first, because the skin part is excellently proportioned, but because another length of skin goes through the neck-guard-thingy. When looking at it total, that's stretching it. (Pun intended) The problem of course originates in the neck-guard. As how it's called, it's meant to cover the neck (including the broader part, which is left uncovered as of now), and then sprout a face on top, like a flower!
I played a bit with it in photoshop. If you cut the head and neck-guard out and place them further down (over the collar bones), then the proportion is sorta right, while still keeping the long necked look.
I particularly like the dark shadow that the clothes cast on her. I'd like to see such shading when someone truly emerges from a shadow. It seems a little overdone for a day-light shadow though. Unless it's a reference to her dark interior, which would make it symbolical, like most 'extras'.
I seem to always ask you this...: what size is the original?
On a side-note, I think you're genious for not drawing your characters from a straight-up view-point. I like how it's tilted of center; gives it much more character.
Cheers,
Wulf

Those markers really are working out very well, beter than I would have thought possible. Defined, firm colour, with blending that is neither subtle nor hard. And I do love how you do your trees, and add in all the little details. Too few artists give thought to making all parts of their work interest.
Some constructive criticism: again, I feel you do overlong necks; I think this may be because youre trying to do longer hair in full, and are overcompensating on the neck to let you. It looks like hers is 8" in length! The other thing is simply that the lighter green foliage of the tree is lacking border of black marker on the tree but not the cloak; because everything else is clearly outlined it makes it feel like theyre 'floating' on top of the picture.
But minor quibbles aside, great work!

I think you and Wulf are right about the neck and trees here; I've decided to revisit this picture and while the latter are easily remedied via marker, the former will require some photoshopping. Then again, I can use some practice with that too!

After you mentioned the neck thing on the Dreys picture, I actually got out a ruler and checked the length on this picture; it is on the long side but it didn't seem *totally* unreasonable (especially considering that she's supposed to have slightly elongated features--if you could see her fingers in this picture they would be on the longer side as well) so I didn't end up changing it. I did notice, however, that it seemed even longer after coloring, which may be an optical illusion created by the white collar between the darker hair and shirt. Still, I do have a constant struggle to keep my human figures properly proportioned. It kind of makes me wish that I had some actual training in that sort of stuff but I don't have time for art classes at the moment.

Okay. I'm impressed. I really enjoyed noticing all the little details, like the grasshopper, heart charm, and skull in the tree, and the hint of her boots almost hidden in the swirl of the cloak. Will you design some clothes for me? I would pay for a cloak like that. Or a kimono. You could get some silk and hand paint the design. That would rock.

If I knew how to make a kimono like that, I would totally do it for you. I imagine the flowers might be brain-crushingly time consuming, but then again maybe not, seeing as I have no idea how someone might go about making something like this into an actual article of clothing (of any sort, much less a kimono).

I just love you to pieces, you know that?
...by the way, I'm an excellent seamstress. We could team up, you and I...
