Description
"The Interloper"Mosasaurus hoffmannii. An acrylic painting of an immature Mosasaurus wandering into a estuary after being pushed out of the way by larger competitors. When I say immature, it's already thirty feet long.
It was inspired by a picture of a pike in the current issue of BBC Wildlife I saw. I finished this project in just two nights, which is pretty quick.
Completed on the 18th of March 2014.
Done using acrylics.

Vision: Your vision was quite nice here. It probably helped that you were inspired by that photograph, because this came out feeling nice and natural. The angles are good, and the whole layout is rather well done.
Originality: I cannot express how refreshing it is to see a piece containing only the head of a marine reptile. It seems that the vast majority of artists(myself included) who take on marine reptiles feel the need to do full body drawings. Having the creature in a muddy estuary was a nice change of pace from the shallow clear seas of the cretaceous as well.
Technique: I'm thoroughly impressed that you completed this piece in two nights. I've tried painting multiple times, and for whatever reason, it just doesn't click with me. It's hard, and I respect anyone who can create beautiful clean images with paint. You've done that here. The angles are great, I can tell the Mosasaur is underwater and the individual scales look quite nice. The silt being stirred up was an incredibly nice detail as well.
Impact: I'm going to be honest here. I had already clicked the x on the stack of deviations submitted to the group when this piece caught my eye. Luckily for me, I hadn't clicked a second time. This piece drew me in at once, and inspired me to write a critique telling you how great is was. If that's not impact, I don't know what is.
Keep up the great work, you've earned a follower, and hopefully you'll get the many more you deserve.

Awesome, I've never seen a mosasaur artwork appreciating their varanoid nature that well before.

This is way too awesome to be real; I just can't believe it.

So cool. I love monitor lizards and their relatives.
