"Loosen Up"
April Drawing Challenge : Day 1
Quick 15-minute sketch of a character I haven’t drawn in over a year: Jessie! Tried to keep things loose and carefree, and while it’s not perfect, it’s one of my favorite Jessie sketches in a long time.

She looks so cool! I love her expression. I like how calm she is -- her eyes have this look that's both focused and dreamy at the same time. I like that hint of a smirk on her lips -- it's subtle, but relaxed, which really sums up her expression as a whole. I like the way you drew her lips, too, defining the upper lip and hinting at the bottom one, but giving the lips a full, soft look that's also not TOO much. And I also like how you built such a lifelike-seeming nose with a few lines and shapes. And I like her hair, too -- I like that the shapes are simplified and stylized, with a few sharper, blockier shapes and angles that give it a slick look, but mostly I like how implies a head of hair built of lots of soft individual strands, broken up into a few groupings, without actually rendering every strand. I like how you struck the right balance of simplifying it to communicate really pretty hair but keeping things elegant and clean.
Awesome.

Thank you! I've shied away from drawing this and other characters because I felt I couldn't get them to look like they did in my head. This is the happiest I've been with a Jessie sketch in a long time.
Your comments also gave me the warm fuzzies in a major way. Thank you so much for the time and consideration you spent on each, and thank you for the lovely compliments you've given me! What a wonderful surprise to find in my message box!!

I know that feeling, too -- the frustration of the image and idea of a character in your head not coming out right when you try to draw them. But I'm glad that you're happy with how she's drawn here!
You're very welcome; I'm glad my comments gave you the warm fuzzies! XD

Thank you! It feels REALLY good to sketch again, and even better to sketch one of my OWN characters for a change!
