Description
Another art card commission: The Last Unicorn in her true form and as the Lady Amalthea. I first read the book (by Peter S. Beagle) in high school, having borrowed it from one of my awesome English teachers, and was enchanted. :3 Before sketching this card out, I actually managed to find the animated movie on youtube and got to watch it again for the first time in years.Card is 2.5 x 3.5 inch bristol, colored with marker and colored pencil.
I opened up $25 art card commissions again last week. Currently, the 5 spots are full, but if you're interested in commissioning me, keep an eye on my DA journal for an open spot.

She is beautiful as both human and unicorn. Too bad she didn't stay human forever, or else she would have lost her identity and memory of herself and herd forever.

This is so beautiful! I love the soft colors and flowing lines--I think you did a really good job expressing the style of the movie in your own way. Lovely!

Thank you so much! I was hoping I could translate it well even without fully using the movie's style.

Your welcome I like the Last Unicorn too. I tried to look for it on youtube but people post up links where you have to answer survey questions.

Nailed it! I like the simultaneous forms concept--more fun that way. Great movie too. I love the creepy circus. The guy who does Ruhk's voice (he also did Gollum in the old Hobbit cartoon), is amazing.

I'm so glad you like it! I'm looking forward to you seeing it in person because the colors are always a little different in scans (although this one does match fairly well).
Thank you again for commissioning me!

I have only seen about 5 minutes of that movie, and all I remember is that it was really sad, really beautiful, and that the unicorn had some disturbingly unhorse-like eyes.

They actually re-released the movie a few years ago as a 25th anniversary version if you were interested; you could probably still buy a copy. It amazes me that you can draw so much on such a tiny card and get so much detail

Oooh, I'm tempted to nab the dvd then! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled. Thank you for the heads up! :3
Thank you! I seem to think better at small sizes like this. When I worked on larger "canvases" it often felt like a struggle to fill up all that space.

lol I have the reverse problem! When I work at anything smaller than letter size, I start doodling something appropriate for the size and my pencil/pen strokes usually end up too fat (i'm a really messy sketcher) and I don't have room to draw faces into the heads I've drawn lol! In fact, I draw so big most of the time that when I draw something on letter size, if what I'm drawing is in a small section, I'll scan it and add it in digitally [link]
