Description
Poster inspired by the late Gil Scott Heron (seriously, why is that guy always so late?) and his masterpiece 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised'Other inspiration came from somebody telling me that the Kony 2012 video was the beginning of the revolution and since then I have had this song/poem circulating in my brain, as I believe that the revolution will not be televised. And why would it be? To me, for the revolution to be on television would be somewhat warped as the TV and the media are part of that which I believe we should be revolting against.
Nobody on the news will be telling you it's the revolution. I am sure of this. As Gil Scott says "The revolution will be live".
Hi-res image available for download should you wanna print this out. I encourage you to go paste it around the streets.
"You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruptions.
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John Mitchell,
General Abrams and Mendel Rivers
to eat hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.
The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by the Schaefer Award Theatre
and will not star Natalie Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia.
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal.
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs.
The revolution will not make you look five pounds thinner,
because the revolution will not be televised, Brother.
There will be no pictures of you and Willie May
pushing that shopping cart down the block on the dead run,
or trying to slide that color TV into a stolen ambulance.
NBC will not be able predict the winner at 8:32
or report from 29 districts.
The revolution will not be televised.
There will be no pictures of pigs
shooting down brothers on the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of Whitney Young being
run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process.
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy Wilkens
strolling through Watts in a Red, Black and Green liberation jumpsuit
that he had been saving for just the right occasion.
Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville Junction
will no longer be so damned relevant, and
women will not care if Dick finally screwed Jane
on Search for Tomorrow
because Black people will be in the street looking for a brighter day.
The revolution will not be televised.
There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock
news and no pictures of hairy armed women liberationists
and Jackie Onassis blowing her nose.
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb or
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom
Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink.
The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be right back after a message
about a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a dove in your
bedroom, the tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.
The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that may cause bad breath.
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat.
The revolution will not be televised,
will not be televised,
not be televised,
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be live."

1. A forcible overthrow of a government or social order for a new system.
2. (in Marxism) The class struggle that is expected to lead to political change and the triumph of communism.
I can't really respond to this 'we' as I don't speak for everyone.

Shouldn't the talk of such things be illegal given that you can't talk about overthrow of the American Government or something?

According to who? And what would it matter if it were illegal?

According to the Constitution or something official. You can't talk about overthrowing the US government, or else that's like terrorism or something.
What would it matter? Have you ever heard of a little thing called prison?

No. What is this, pri son? Is that like one of them pyramid's that refracts white light into the pretty colours of the rainbow?
What would be the point promoting for people to revolt only to be scared of the backlash of the government?
"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. "
- Thomas Jefferson

Maybe, but remember who's in power. The Government. When The Government fear their people bad things are sure to follow.
Well, the point would be that isn't always the most effective way to get things done.

And I am aware that they are in some sort of power and I respect that it is your belief that should governments fear people bad thing would ensue, but I am in agreement with Thomas Jefferson's quote and believe we would instead head toward liberation.

I totally agree. Many people nowadays think that the power is in the media and that they can change something via media. They disagree when I say that the power is on the streets like it always used to be. Not in front of a screen or on the screen. That's why I like this lyric of Uncle Gil.
Beautiful compsition & colours.
By the way you can check out my version I made on the day Gil died:

Uncle Gil That's beautiful, and has literally made me smile.
The streets have become a scary place for people nowadays, and every newspaper appears to give us a daily confirmation that this is the right perspective to think from; thus we trust the newspaper and the media feels like a safer haven of information. People underestimate the power of something such as graffiti, probably since we are told that it's 'vandalism'. It's only vandalism if we don't own it but if we reclaim the streets then it's ours.
And thank you for the compliments on the colour and composition; this is only my second poster I've made so it means alot to hear they are working positively for people.
