Description
Hopefully I got the species right, I really suck at identifying creatures! I was doing laundry (our machines are on the patio) and I closed the doors to the laundry room and this guy was staring at me from the railing of the patio! I don't think I've ever grabbed my camera and tripod this fast, haha. Shot with a Canon T3i and a 100mm Macro F/2.8 on a tripod - His eyes were following me throughout the whole shoot - his pupils were trained on me nonstop, was really funny to see. This picture (and all my photography!) is copyrighted by me and may not be used, reproduced or claimed as your own. this is a perfect picture of a praying mantis. it is a beautiful female specimen and she is probably nearing the end of her life cycle since we are coming into autumn. they only live one summer. if you see a brown foamy egg case attached to anything in your yard, leave it there and all her children will greet you in june to become subjects in your upcoming photo shoots. your exposure and the colors are great. you've really got her standing out against the background. she just pops out. stunning. the way you got her to look right into the lens is a perfect illustration through the media of photography , of their intense attention and excellent eyesight/ pivoting ability. it's actually quite hard to capture them on film as they are masters of camoflage and fly very well. i congratulate you on a brilliant shot taken when the perfect opportunity presented itself. really beautiful!
