Description
- This is my Master Study participation in the 'Master Study to Original - November Challenge' of MasterStudiesAndMore , co-hosted by Inspiring-Creation and ThatArtGrind .
The original is Manuel Eraso's "Desnudo masculino sentado y en escorzo cubriéndose el rostro" (www.europeana.eu/portal/record… . Manuel de Eraso. Complutense University Library of Madrid. CC BY-NC-ND - creativecommons.org/licenses/b… ). It is such a beautiful drawing and so perfectly executed, I thought it would be good practice for line work, including edges and surface rendering. When I saw the anatomy prompt for this challenge, it had to be this drawing.
It turns out I don't have much patience for the perfect cross hatching though : / ... I'm pretty sure I won't be including that in my original later this month ; )
The highlights could use a bit more blending but this study has taken a lot of time already, so I'll probably leave it as is.
Note to Ro5ert: it was so nice that you already had something to upload on the very 1st day of the challenge to encourage us to participate : ) I thought the effort should not stay alone for long : )

Great job! You captured the form really well! All you need now is to add the highlights and strengthen the shadows, which is my favorite part because it makes the figure pop, especially when you are not using white paper.
I love the cross-hatching in the original, but I don't think I would have tried to copy that either. It looks like really advanced cross-hatching with a very fine point. I think that getting the right shapes and values is what it's important if what you are trying is to focus on the anatomy and not this particular technique.

Hi Ana! I'm glad that it worked .
It looks very good already! Take your time pushing those darks and I will wait patiently for those wonderful white chalk highlights.

Hi Ana, I saw this go through the watch list. I know it's a project hosted by master Studies
This is just a personal comment apart from the critiques from any of the groups involved.
When I saw this I had to make a comment because I felt this was such an excellent sketch in itself. I'm not a big fan of hatch shading myself and I think you have done fantastic shading in this defining the muscles and anatomy of your figure.

Hi Ana, Your so very welcome and thank you for this wonderful reply.
Your drawing skills are much more advanced than mine. I can't draw figures or do human portraits. I'm in awe of artists such as yourself that can do them. My figures would be on a kinder garden level lol.
I feel this such an exceptional drawing.

Thank you so much for this wonderful comment on my art but I'm finding out now how much I don't know!!! lol. I started classes at our community college last month.
I was invited to Master studies group but I had to decline. I'm afraid I've put one two many irons in the fire I'm helping Diosrubra with the traditional group and I took over as founder for the sister group The Digital Freeway.
On top of classes I'm having a hard time keeping up with everything.
