Admin: Oh, still working on my undergraduate degree. I'll be graduating this semester, so I'll either be looking for a job real soon or go to graduate school; it all depends on if I get accepted into any school and if I can find it in myself to continue college for another two years. Age 22, and I cannot remember a time when I HAVEN'T been a student.

ah! so we're the same age then! I'm still working under the same company that hired me three years ago, although under a different "extension" I used to troubleshoot TVs, Blurays and Soundbars, now I transfer money... it's a lot harder than I imagined.
If you are gonna continue doing college, make sure it's all worth it; once you go searching for a job, you'll need ALL the experience.
Still, I found some time to be myself and been working on some gag comic strips based on my furry art. I think after a five year run, Herbie and co will take a break.

Ah, so it's like banking, or accounting?
Sadly to say, I have no work experience, not even retail. Thing about English degree is, if you don't have any job experience, its very difficult to find a break. Once you get any job experience in writing, however, things get much easier when it comes to publishing your work. At least, that's what I'm told.
Heh, I'm still using characters like Margo, but with less emphasis on her as a main character. Been building a world around my characters for about two-three years now, and although I'm still in the drawing board about the plot(s), it will be easier to write the stories once the world is complete.

I understand what you mean about building worlds; I'm struggling with this idea to include a bit of the supernatural in Life In New Kirk. I already gave a hint with one or two characters being clairvoyant, but the thing is I don't want to focus on that.Β It's gonna be there, but more of a side-story or just an element of the world. (plus, said character isn't even a main character)
I'm thinking of taking things slow and focus more on the slice-of-life aspect of the comic first before going all crazy...well, crazier.

Funny you should mention that, I keep running into outright fantasy elements because of minor characters. For now, I classify them as a race of mutants, but I cannot keep doing that with all the characters... I guess I'll figure it out.
Slice-of-life is a good genre, but I find that it's easy to overgeneralize the series that way. Worse, since a lot of the stories are episodic, the series may have be directionless with no overarching plot. That may be fine for some series, but I'd like for there to be SOME direction to the series. It's a good way to involve the audience to delve deeper into the lore of the series if it actually plays into the plot.

basically, it's gonna be a gag comic of sort so that is the aim, plotless funnies of a dude, his crazy roomies, crazier friends and a very weird world. Most of the scripts are in 4 panel format, but, as you mentioned, I could try dwelling a bit on the world's hidden lore...like a big arc that I need to lead to...
Until then, I'll just continue drawing lou being chased by ducks for some reason...
