Description
((If Ooo's dragons look more like eels than fire breathing winged lizards and mermaids look more like giant skeletons, why not make an all different "triffid" for Ooo?))From Herbie's notes:
Triffid
height: ranges from 10 feet to 2 meters
weight: ranges from 77 lbs to 200 lbs
Mostly vines and leaves, a Triffid is a plantoid creature built for mobile flight. The creature's main body is composed of tangled vines housing an organ that acts as both the creature's heart and brain. A triffid sports a skull-like thick leaf that contains sensory organs which help the animal feels its way through anything, as well as a long vine that's lined with papillae, two enlarged leaves from the sides of the main body containing millions of air pockets that help their functions as wings, and three thick vines which function as their legs when on land.
To take flight, Triffids can either flap their wings or, if the creature is young, hang themselves upside down from a tree branch using their vine legs, spread their wings and drop off, letting the wind push them to flight. (Though, the success of the latter practice tends to take time and more often lead to the creature being hurt. The moment a young triffid masters its flying skills, it'll no longer need to do this.)
Dietary of these creatures are nearly absent as they rely on sunlight and water for most of its nutrition. To absorb sunlight, a triffid spreads its wings and bask under the sun for hours. For water, the triffid dunks its papillae-lined vine into any fresh water source to take in nutrients.
In reproduction, a triffid produces spores in every two seasons, notably Spring and Autumn; the spores are very sensitive and fragile to any particles, thus the rarity for them to develop fully. A successful cultivation happens when any undamaged spore lands on fresh soil, taking up to two years for a spore to grow and hatch. Growth appears to be similar to that of a near-extinct specie known as humans.
Taming a triffid can be an ordeal: not only are the creature's sensory organs strong enough to pick up the slightest movement, warning them to be alert, but it's long tongue-like vine can act as a lashing whip. The strength of the lashes relies on the creature's slender neck, but it's also through this, and only this, vine that a creature can be tamed: by grabbing the vine, the creature will recognize the tamer's "taste" and if treated conditionally, a triffid will remain docile and tamed around the handler.
If a tamed triffid tastes another individual, it'll react alarmed and defensive, attacking said individual if further provoked. Due to this, it is rare for a triffid to have two handlers, butΒ not impossible should one creature can recognize two tastes at the same time.
note: I've kept a special field outside my kingdom where I breed these magnificent creatures. Please be in mind, to whoever will read this, that I'll never disclosed the actual location of this field.
If interested in studying one, please inform me as a single triffid seems to have followed me here to my kingdom.

Herbie: well, just keep your distance. Triffids can only sense one single person through out heir lifetime, so it may not take kindly to your presence once he sensed it.
