Description The first world according to J. R. R. Tolkien. I always felt that the light is a very important character in Tolkiens books (yes, a character). In his works, it's not just a life giver, it's alive. So I thought that Illuin and Ormal (the great lamps of the world) should be ...well...Oragnic. Something like the Predecessors of the Trees of Valinor. Also, they would give life to the world not just through the light. I think they literally held world together, something like a basket. In case you are wandering about the roots coming out from them. Like that, world would be literally filled with light. I think they were the bigger miracle then the Trees (sorry folks). They didn't give life just to one land.
Drawing with pencils on paper. Warning, It's big.

Fascinating drawing. Good technique. A compelling landscape even if one is not familiar with Tolkien. Love the organic root/branch shapes.

Beautiful and very interesting! It's nice to see someone's concept of the Lamps. I am admittedly one of those who focus more on the Age of the Trees, but I do Think the Lamps are "a bigger mirace" as you say. Shame only that they were destroyed so early on in the legends.

Yes it is. I always thought that they were almost "pagan" in their might and freshness. Not confined to one land and controlled.

I've always been interested in the Ages of the Lamps. So many people are so fascinated with the Trees of Valinor that they forget about the great lamps that existed before.
And I agree with you, I think of light as a source of life.

GOD bless

Well, Tolkien did say that the Light was flowing out of them when Morgoth destroyed them I was inspired by that little thing.
