Something fishy about this picture, my opinion is these are German "techs" and at least one civilian (the 3rd man on the turret). The barrel is possibly a wooden mockup with cam netting Note as well there are no tracks visible. The Germans were not beyond doctoring photos for propaganda purposes. It would be interesting to see the original or the paper it came out of.Β The grandfather story sounds like a story, grandfathers do that sometimes.Β Iβve never in all my years reading about WWII and especially German Weapons and their βwonder weaponsβ have heard of any US unit being involved with the Maus.Β All accounts, even some of supposed βlast hurrah of the Maus accountsβ all point to the Russians scoring these vehicle prototypes and all. IMHOβ¦.

Also, if your grandfather had taken this picture, then how come it wasn't uploaded to DA until yesterday? While looking through images of the Maus, I found this same exact picture uploaded from a different person TWO YEARS AGO! Unless you happened to have two accounts you posted this on, this is HIGHLY unlikely.

Yeah, i noticed that too. I've saw this picture on about 4 years ago over the internet.
Besides, i dont think those krauts would just let the enemy take a picture of that tank without getting pissed. I mean, did his grandfather managed to get behind the enemy lines just to take this picture? lol

The thing is though, the Panzer VIII Maus never saw combat. Only two prototypes were made and out of the two, only one actually had a turret and it underwent trials before it and the testing grounds were captured by Soviet forces.

No, the first one fitted with a turret was sent out to battle on the final defence of Berlin. It was destroyed on the outside skirt of the city. The V2 Prototype was captured at the training grounds.

The Maus with the turret was destroyed while the second, without the turret, was found? Wrong. The Maus with the turret along with the one without the turret were both captured on the training grounds by Russian forces. If the turreted one was destroyed, then how come there's a Maus in perfect condition in a museum in Russia?Β upload.wikimedia.org/wikipediaβ¦Β The only Maus that's seen combat isn't even in real life, but a fucking anime! The Maus in the Museme in russia is in terrible condition. The turret from the destroyed one was in good enough condition to salvage. So they salvaged the turret from the first and mated it with the V2 prototype. The inside of it is gutted. they are currently working to restore it. youtu.be/8PTFnl316ug

The V1 wasn't destroyed, the Soviets decided to switch the turrets over to the incomplete hull, because that's all the V2 was at the time the Soviets captured it, just a hull of armor.

This is during the process of switching the V1's turret over to the V2, the reason it looks so fucked up is becuase of the fact that the Germans tried to destroy the tanks before the Soviets arrived, which they failed to do so.

No they did destroy it! If they failed to destroy it why wasn't it still driveable? That's why the hull wasn't salvageable! The turret was in "Good enough" condition to salvage it.
And let me just go over what you just did in a nutshell.
Me: The first Maus was destroyed and they mated the turret with the second one.
You: No they didn't!
Me: *Insert picture of destroyed Maus here.*
You: That's because they destroyed it!

I said they tried to destroy it, it's obvious they failed because the Russians got their hands on it.

The first one was destroyed. The Russians didn't get their "Hands" on it because it was not able to be used in combat anymore. And the second one was found after the war nor had a combat outfitted turret, so there was no point using it. And they decided to salvage and restore the turret on the first prototype and put it on the second prototype. They DID destroy the first Maus. A tank can get it's whole turret blown off, and it will still be considered a tank, the "Tank" is the hull. Which the germans successfully destroyed and prevented from the russians capturing it. Again, the simply mated the turret with it's sibling in some kinky tank incest and kept the Maus not as a weapon. But a trophy of war.

Yes, the maus with the turret were destroyed!
There were 2 Mauses: The V1 (turretless) and the V2 (with turret and armament)
I have made a confusion on the post above, sorry about that. The V1 prototype were the one that got captured by the soviets, and not the V2 like i said before. My mistake.
The soviets captured the V1 (turretless).
After the war, some soviet commander ordered the hull of V1 to be mated with the turret of V2 and then they sent it to USSR for more testing. When the testing was over, they sent it to kubinka tank museum

Ah okay, but look on the bright side, Wargaming has made plans with Kubinka to restore the Maus to operational status, which make it the world's only Operational Maus just like how Tiger 131 is the world's only operational Tiger.

Nice! Dude I saw Fury last night and Jesus.....tears of joy were shed that night and more tears have been shed because I got Fury for World of Tanks. It is actually designed from the top down to look exactly like Fury from the movie.

yep, i'm also getting it. It's basically the same sherman E8 from the game, but since the fury is premium, it can make more credits!

Turbofurby In reply to Brazilian-Soldier [2014-10-17 19:56:07 +0000 UTC]
After trying it out, it's actually better than the E8. It moves faster(atleast it feels like it does for me), instead of the M1A1 76mm gun, it's an M1A2 76mm gun, and it reloads a hell lot faster.

Thanks god is the M1A2 (same from the sherman jumbo). I played with the jumbo before, the M1A2 is way much better then the M1A1.
I never played with the sherman easy eight, so i dont know if it's faster.

The Easy Eights and nice and fast tank, a good mix between the Jumbo and the regular Sherman.

Yes, it was SENT to battle, but it never reached it because of engine problems. So the germans destroyed it so it would not be captured by the soviets
The V2 prototype was captured by the soviets on the training grounds later
