Winter had come and gone with little events. Isha’s worries had washed away with the warm breeze that passed, melting the snow across the land. Nuala was now no longer nursing and Mona had become a lovely grown mare. Isha couldn’t believe how big she had grown. Seemed just like yesterday she had found him struggling in the summer sun. Everyone was doing amazing. Summer had been right, there was nothing to worry about.
Or at least there hadn’t till now
Spring was here and both Summer’s and Ash’s bellies looked ready to explode. The foals inside had threatened to long ago.
Ash had been grazing by the pond when Summer came trotting up to her. She was so quiet that Ash was a bit started when she heard her name being called so close.
”Summer! You startled me-“ She was cut off.
”We need to go..”
Ash was a bit surprised and startled at Summer’s words. Leave? What did she mean?
”What do you mean?”
“It’s time. The baby’s coming...”
Ash’s eyes widened. Already? Ash looked behind her at the herd who was lazily grazing and relaxing in the warm sun. “But the herd will keep you safe.”
”But it may attract predators. You never stepped away to have foals in your other herd?”
”..I haven’t had any foals before... You do that?”
Summer sighed. She confessed this was her first foal as well, but the other mares had done that in the past.
Ash and Summer looked at each other for a while.
”Okay.. but not too far.. I’ll go tell Isha-“
”No, we need to go now..” Summer groaned as a contraction rushed through her body.
”Okay okay..” Ash looked back uneasily, no one paying mind to the two.
”Let’s go”
Ash lead Summer through the trees to a secluded spot for some privacy as a rush of pain traveled through her. Oh no...
Little did they know that a buckskin mare watched them as they disappeared into the trees.
