Description

This is a Fenrir-Class Destroyer, one of the more common ships in the Imperial Navy, dressed and ready for parade! Though her paint job could use a little freshening up. While there are several variants of the ship, this one in particular is a gunboat, equipped with 4 cannons as its primary armament. It also comes standard with 8 point defense cannons, 2 mine-laying rails, 4 torpedo tubes, and a small hangar with access bays on either side, for drones and small shuttles. Larger craft such as fighters and dropships can dock with the four "suction cup" umbilicals located above and below the hangar entrances.

This design turned out particularly nautically themed, even more so than my previous designs. It's a bit ridiculous for a spaceship, since I've always favored realism in my sci-fi. But I love how it looks regardless, so I decided to role with it and invoke the rule-of-cool. Just don't ask me why the rigging hangs "downward" in micro-G. Maybe it's done intentionally during parades, for aesthetics. They do have artificial gravity generators, after all.

Some of the more observant among you may have also noticed that I already used the Fenrir name to refer to a previous cruiser. I like this design much more though, and Fenrir is such a cool name. Since I haven't posted a formal ref for that cruiser, I've decided to retcon and steal the name for this here destroyer. I'm thinking of rebranding the cruiser as a Nemea-Class or something.

For this model, I also got a little more in depth with geometry nodes to create the hanging flags. They are a super powerful tool, and I enjoyed playing around with them. I'm going to try and start using them more, and I may even look into how to script with Blender. Some of the tricks I had to pull to get my nodes working correctly would have been easier in a programming language, so I can already see the potential for scripting being even more powerful. I happen to be a Python programmer already, I've just never looked into the Blender API before, mostly because I never had a need.

Hope you all enjoy!
