Description

Map made on RPG Maker for my fangame Pokemon Sacred Phoenix.
Here is the Route 3 - Berry fields: one of the three map that the player can explore after his second passage to Tintignac. To the southwest, this pass lead to Eldania, a rural town of Alienor Shire. This area separates the valley of Sornen from that of Ithiel.

Berries field lore:

Berries fields are an agricultural area grouping together several crops. Topographically, the area is distinguished by plateaus drilling a pass and craters filled with water, evidence of ancient volcanic activity. This is what makes these lands fertile.

Maeve the High Priestess of Celebi who is also the Thane of Eldania runs the farm that gives this road its name. Far from the luxury currently occupied by the nobility of Keltios, she lives in a simple thatched cottage, certainly spacious, but her wish is to live as close as possible to nature and vegetation. Her fields are a holy area dedicated to her divinity. Many peacefull Grass Pokémons live atop the lush ancient volcano, now eroded and whose crater has been covered with a lake.

Her farm is separated from that of the Talonflames by a meadow occupied by low-level fauna. This is where the farmers graze their cattle.

If the player explores this road before reaching Gortelda, the cottage will be empty and angry Tauros will clash on the pass, blocking the main road. Some peasants asked the foresters to go and find the Augur Awena or the High Priestess who are in Gortelda, but still have no news. They will then invite the hero to go through Route 2 to check if help is on the way. Morever, the south side of the pass is occupied by a slightly more aggressive fauna (brighter colored tall grass).

When the Tauros problem is solved, the High Priestess - back in her cottage - will offer the player to plant berries according to the mechanism of the official games. In Keltios, the vast majority of fruit trees have taken root for many years: the harvest is regular and this plants do not require any maintenance. The only exception is here: thanks to the magic that permeates her land, she can grow berry trees in a matter of days, this from a single seed. The backlash is that the plants will require minimum watering to be productive and the harvest will be fatal to the plant.

The immense advantage for the player is that he can plant the Berries of his choice, thus allowing to privilege those which are rare or useful. Since alchemy is an art that consumes a lot of plants, it can be of great help to the player.

To facilitate the work of the player, a well is in the center and all the cultivable spots in this way are gathered in this unique place.

Borders:

Northwest: Route 2 - Celebian Valley

North: Tintignac

Northeast: Route 1 - Eagle Path

East: Talonflames Farm

Southeast: Cernos Mounts

South: Route 6 - Ithiel Valley

Southwest: Eldania

West: Elda Forest

Experiencing tile-making and advanced mapping:

It is 64x32 map (2x1 chunks).

When starting this map, I decided to put the whole Alienor Shire on one mega-map of 13x11 chunks. The goal was to have perfect transitions from one map to another, while taking advantage of the unique tileset that I use for that region. The copy and paste of maps on RPG Maker is then done without any problem.

The flip side was that I ended up with a huge playing field. I couldn't resist the temptation to start mapping the surrounding areas, notably the Ithiel Valley (which corresponds to Route 6) and Cernos Mounts. Result: 7 days to complete this map, but a step ahead of neighboring ones.

This map is linked to many others (8 in all), which meant that I had to anticipate the borders and make sure that enough rows of tiles were already mapped to the side maps.
