In lieu of Oasis update (11/18 frames cleaned up) I figured I'd share this bit.I was playing around with the colour scheme for Nulmiril's Ainu form - I've already settled on which one I prefer with the help of a few good friends, but figured I'd share this with everybody and hear which one suits you.
Sketches surrounding her are some of the other Valar (care to take a guess?) I started designing after Tulkas. Enjoy and sorry this is all I got. :[

Something about blue flames always looks more imposing for some reason. I think it's because non-traditionally red fire just looks more unnatural?

I almost feel bad making the comparison, but yes. KadΓr to Miri is kind of like... your favourite pair of socks to you. You love how fuzzy and comfortable they are...but they're still just socks.

Yep⦠hence the embarrassed patting on the head and half-baked attempts to distract him.
She really needs a better cover story - suggestions? It may make for an appendix⦠though the situations where she basically pecks him gently on the forehead, turns him around and pats him on the bum urging to go elsewhere and keep playing in the sand are a source of amusement for me.

Hmm, cover story. Generally the best lies are the ones that are closest to the truth, and she's been around long enough to probably know that. Plus a story that works with being found full of arrows in the desert. Going with the "It's too painful for me to talk about." route sort of works because it makes the other person the jerk for asking because TOO PAINFUL.

I don't know if you want opinions but I just thought of something, considering blue flames are mostly hotter maybe she gets that colour when she has certains emotions very strongly like when she's really angry and using powers or something? like if she had to fight against melkor or whatnot I don't know how realistic that is but yeah
but anyway she looks beautiful!

Ha! That's an interesting idea! I like it, though I think at this point I am settled on the blue. I think I will use your suggestion and just flood her with more white when she's angry!
She did fight with Melkor many aeons ago in the old days - but that said, opposing him did not last very long.

What's an Ainu? My ignorance is showing...

The really short version: Ainur are divine spirits in the LOTR universe. Most of them live in the Undying lands, along with most of the elves. All of them are immortal beings that can change appearance at will. The characters Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast, and Sauron are all Ainur.

I'm trying to decide on that. I'm already revealing her story in fits and starts through just random posts here, so people paying attention can figure out what she's about. Personally I don't like flaskbacks or walls of expository monologue - but what other options are there? So I need to think. Luckily, the present storyline isn't concerned with her past terribly, so I still have time to figure it out - is there a way you wanted to see it revealed?

I'm not sure I have preference, I'm just curious. I'm not terribly familiar with the Tolkein's world so I'm not certain how much I'd understand anyway. n_n;

Nice! I like warm tones because I feel they... show her character more? I don't know much about her, but she seems to have a more explosive character than a cold one. The blue looks beautiful, too. I'm just too used to her red hair, I guess.
The Valar next to her... could it be Vana? The deer ears... I think I remember it said that she liked to run like a deer or something like that. And 5 eyed girl could be Varda? Because she watches all of earth or something like that...? It's been a while since I last read the book, though, I'm very uncertain. You picked my curiosity, now!

You know, that's a really good idea about the red hair and red flames⦠I may use it later. I ended up settling on the blue one because higher temperature flame burns bluer - but I can sneak more red tones in her hair flame, I think. That's a nice detail I overlooked, thank you!
But neither of the Valie were right⦠I did design a Varda, but haven't yet thought of a look for VÑna yet⦠keep guessing. :]

So she's a very minor Maiar if she's in need of charity. I'm guessing she's not powerful enough on her own to create her own kingdom like Melian? What kind of power does she have?

Haha, how does one measure 'power' in that world anyway? I wish it was like DBZ with scouters, but most of the Valar and Valier have their own strengths and weaknesses. And each Maia was different too.
In a bar brawl Tulkas will always win, in a knitting competition Varda will take home the gold... and if anyone ever sets up a crying contest, Nienna will show everyone how it's done. :]

Heh, I wasn't speaking strictly in terms of fighting, I suppose more like "divine/magic ability". I guess because magic isn't really clearly defined in middle earth it can be hard to compare relative power without outright stating so. I just figured that if Nulmiril required to be taken in by an elvish family, she probably won't have abilities on par with Melian. Maybe the wizards, but I don't know based on what little we've seen so far.

Again, it seems like every Vala and Maia expressed what they could do differently, making it a non-linear scale. I do understand what you mean, but I just don't know how to apply it here. Nulmiril would receive an F if graded along Melian's "singing/finger-wiggling in the woods and seducing firstborn elves" scale. Likewise, she can't quite live up to Gandalf's level of trekking to and fro across Middle-Earth cleaning up our buddy Sauron's mess. Does that make her completely weak and minor? Maybe - I do have trouble discerning your thoughts, but I can piece together it a bit, I think. :]

I keep looking at this (tumblr & here), and I take it back. I just love both of the designs so much. I think either fits theΒ Nulmiril I've seen really well. And they are both gorgeous color combos.
