its not like capcom wants to get rid of megaman. its more like they want to get rid of inafune's megaman. for me there is a lot of chances that this is a kind of revenge against him. To be honest, the fact that 3ds was not a success is the main reason why the game was canceled, still the stuff with marvel vs capcom, and the fact that they didnt released the legends 3 prototype, smells more like a revenge. megaman universe... its a mixture of boths. The game had to be tuned, and the critics weren't exactly good for those who played, so that played against finishing the development.
In other words, in capcom mainly you can find people that thinks in the business, but between them, some are pretty anoyed with inafune. So, if they find a small reason to boicot their games, they will use it to make a pressure group.
The thing is, Inafune said some stuff that got people angry when he left, but those things were true. if they dont change their philosophy, they will lose lot of market. And this way to act they are having now, its clearly somethign to get money the easier way posible whitout changing their philosphy. I foresee a downside in their sales, and probably a renovation between the companie directives soon.

believe it or not, megaman has a LOT of fans. face it, megaman is one of your more popular characters, if you get rid of him, you may find that you have a lot less fans, and less fans = less games being sold = less money for you. I think the choice is obvious, but let me clarify with something all the other megaman fans are saying, *ahem* BRING BACK MEGAMAN!!!

well, in the case of mega man legends 3, what is more anoying is that they didnt released the prototype, because it was finished already. I think everybody would be ok if after it was released they said is not a succes or something like that, then people wont be as pissed off.
but there is more than that. When Megaman universe was canceled nobody complained that much, but it happens that, the same week that they canceled megaman legends 3, they just annunciated ultimate marvel vs capcom 3, few months after marvel vs capcom 3 was released, with not a lot of new stuff (and most of it was stuff that was suposed to be downloable content)... With not megaman X (capcom did a survey to add new characters to marvel vs capcom 3. Megaman x was in the first place, with a massive ammount of votes, but, when they asked capcom about him in ultimate mvsc they said "he had not fanbase enough"... but they did added other characters that reach the second, third of that survey (phoenix wright, strider, nemesis...)).
That was pretty suspicious.
in the case of megaman legends 3 prototype, the demo was finished, and they have to distribute it in an online way, so they had nothing to lose, but they choosed not to release it even if that means to lose ALL the funds they give to the megaman legends 3 project. With prototype they could get some of those funds for the sales, even if they are not high. they ahve nothing to lose. So its VERY suspicious.

lol well, to be honest, more than conspiracy, its more likely the kind of policy of japanese videogame companies lately (squarenix, sega and nintendo have been having similar policies and occiental videogame companies are growing this last years). Market is not being friendly with them lately and they are being forced to change to a world oriented business, instead a japanese oriented business (even if they sold stuff outside since lots of years ago, they werent too much open to it, and its the reason lots of games never went out of japan). But as a company, they are a bit stuborn, so they find hard to change paradigms nowadays even if the market is forcing them to.
But being one reason or another, what is true is that lately capcom has been making angry lots of customers, and I dont mean just the megaman fans, so its pretty probable that in the next year, capcom's salles will drop.

Well, for what I think, probably some of the most famous videgame companies nowadays will fall out of business, and some of the new indie teams will raise as big companies in the next years.
the actual companies that will keep on being the main ones will be those who will be able to adapt to the new market, hiring outsourcing teams, and new techonlogies: about 10 years ago, games were relativatelly easy to make so that made the production pretty cheap. But nowadays, the production of a AAA type game is more expensive than making movies, so companies cant keep doing stuff by themselves as they used to, so the clever awnser by now is to trust in outsourcing.
Nowadays is cheaper to contract small independent teams to create games (and often those teams use to be occidental ones), and thats what companies are up to lately. In the end its pretty clear that they will specializate, so instead of a big company, there will be several ones, every one of them devoting to one part of the videogame developement (design, story, graphical motor, infography, phisics... and other stuff).
other posible evolution woudl be to actually to deevolve and to go back to the videogame roots, using sprites and simple techonlogy, very much the thing that is happening with cellphone videogames lately (an exemple can be angry birds).
The thing depends of the demand anyway. until a few years ago, last 30 years they were trying to make us wish to have better and better graphics, and that made lots of visually cool but really expensive and hollow games. at one point, market will be saturated and people will start looking other kind of games. Thats pretty much what made wii and ds so popular even though they had an outdate hardware, anyway.

Lol dont put your faith in one or two companies.
I dunno about ubisoft, but actually Square-Enix is having lots of bad habits that are making them to have some economical trouble, so until they change their policy, I would not put too many bets on them.

personally i dont know if the future bring the concept consoles. it depends of the market. maybe in the future we will not use consoles as itself but more like pc and cell phone.
dont get me wrong, I am a console guy and I hardly play in my computer. Still we must be open to change of philosopy in the future, because it depends a lot of the circumstances.

well, knowing what are they up to lately, I dont think they can save a lot of stuff (for started, the high price of the 3ds, they had to make it cheaper this month because they werent able to sell them as they expected, but before it was released they say "hey! we notice you want 3ds so much, so we will charge you more money for it that we were going to for starters, hope you dont mind!"). Now they want to release a downgraded version of the Wii, whitout gamecube compatibility, and so far I know they will charge for it the same than the original wii... and in europe they will not seell the original wii anymore after that!
in the megaman legends 3 topic, although the prototype was a demo, capcom intended to charge for it because nintendo dont let third parties to put stuff for free in their eshop... still they can do it with things like excite bikers 3d and pokemon pokedex. the first time capcom started to talk about paying for demos they had a lot of bad publicity, and even if they didnt say it loud, that case in particular was more a nintendo fault xP
Even though I always was a fan of nintendo and I love their games, lately their policies are not as good as expected.

lol nintendo have no business to do with megaman or not XD. Well maybe they should add him in the new smash bros, as everybody ask for it, but aside of that, they just try to get money with what they do, nothing more, nothing less.
