Description
I've been playing XCOM lately and I just love the Mec Troopers. They are big, they are ponderous and they kick much alien ass. They are also one of the raddest soldiers XCOM has on it's roster. They VOLUNTEER to have their limbs cut off so they can be outfitted with a cybernetic interface allowing them to pilot those huge power suits and they make terrifyingly good use of it.
A sweet little tribute to them I found once

Wow, you are a Mec Trooper fan. I salute your dedication here.Β Β In Long War mod there are different types of Mec troopers depending on their origin class, as well as a couple of extra weapon types.Β Β In XCOM 2 you need the supplement "Shen's Final Gift" to gain Mec troopers for your freedom fighters.Β

I love those big guys, there is nothing like half a ton of pure Fuck-You-Aliens tearing and blowing up their way through alien hordes.
Ohh good to know on both.

Just in case you feel like getting back into it sometimes. In Long War my Gunner conversion is a "Goliath", and my Infantry conversion is a "Valkyrie" type. I will go for an Assault "Spartan" next to get the full close combat bashing.Β

Sadly we don't these bad boys in the sequel, instead we have AI soldiers in the expansion.

Ah I want to play it so much but I don't want to bother with reinstalling my system T_T
And the Mec Troopers went to the enemies?

Kinda. ADVENT has units that act like Mec Troopers, but they're robots, not ADVENT troops in armor.

MEC troopers are ridiculously easy to mind control though...

Which is why I always bring regular soldiers with Neural Dampening to missions... also the moment a psychic alien Appears it becomes a priority. Imagine the poor sucker's reaction, he is all happy that he mind-controlled one of those destructive hulks... and then notices that every missile launcher, grenade launcher and every single plasma and particle rifle is aimed right at him. No kill like overkill when dealing with Psychic aliens.

And then all of those missiles, grenades and plasma shots miss because law of Xcom hates you... XD

Andarion In reply to DannyAndYoko [2015-12-12 14:58:36 +0000 UTC]
Plasma, maybe, grenades hell no XD Two MECs can make a great combo. One deploys a mine and the other shoots a grenade there. 13 points of damage without even trying XD

And then the mind controlling alien survives.
Murphy's law of Xcom.

It's going to suck... for us, because all the cool stuff we developed in the first game (Mecs, gene mods etc.) will be aimed AT US. This is going to suck big time XD

The Psychic controlled mechas from Gundam? Heh ironically there ARE Psychic soldiers in XCOM but Mec Troopers can't become them. They also can't be genetically modified which leaves them vulnerable to mind-control from alien psychics.

neogoki In reply to Andarion [2015-12-04 13:38:32 +0000 UTC]
in particular the version from the "Thunderbolt Gundam"-manga, in which Zeon-soldiers who lost limbs volunteered for experiments that allows them to use the mechs as a prosthesis (they get implants for that and one of them allows for his remaining limbs to be cut of for a more complete control
that is drawback, I would try some kind of white-noise generator as a counter

Andarion In reply to neogoki [2015-12-04 15:02:59 +0000 UTC]
Heh that sure is close to what they have in XCOM. They got robotic limbs as replacements?
Well there are two ways to counter PSI attacks, Neural dampening genetic modifcation and an item called Mind Shield but Mecs can't use them. Probably to make the game more balanced and Mecs not being OP.

Andarion In reply to neogoki [2015-12-05 08:15:13 +0000 UTC]
Looks a bit simplistic...
Well... there is Lead by Example perk you can buy at base. If a soldier is close to the Leader of the group, the Leader's Will is substituted for soldier's during PSI attacks.
This is still not all that bad, PSI enemies are usually only at the very end of each level (bridge of the ship, control room of a base) so you almost never encounter them while mopping up the regular crew.

it is set in the original Gundam-universe/era, future envisioned in the 80s
that is good.
they also sound like a prime target for snipers

Andarion In reply to neogoki [2015-12-05 16:09:43 +0000 UTC]
Ah the sweet Retro-Future XD
It's still better to keep them out of sight of PSI aliens.
Yeah but like I said they are mostly Inside the most secure portions of the ship so not much chance to whack them with a sniper's plasma bolt.

and so much classic hardheads and hotbloods, no wonder that era is still popular today
so line of sight-area of effect?
for such cases I'd love to use Mass Effect's penetraiting weapon-mods + scanner-scope , headshot through 2 meters of wall

Indeed, those badass hot blooded dudes with fiery sideburns... funnily enough the Volunteer (strongest Psychic you bring to the last mission in XCOM) in my last playthrough had those cool sideburns XD
Line of sight, they can only mind control one person at a time... sucks for them. They mind control one and the other five rain particle beams, grenades, missiles and plasma bolts on them XD When dealing with ethereals (strongest PSI aliens) there is no kill like overkill.
Mhm no such thing here but you can always use explosives to blow a hole in the wall... or punch it with the Mec's Rocket-assisted Punch XD

Hair Gel, the secret supporter of all anime worlds XD
In one mission there were regular soldiers fighting alongside mine. It really showed me how OP the XCOM troops are, particularly MECs. A regular soldier has 5 points of life and does 2-4 to enemies. A Mec has like 28 and does 9-13 plus they have lots of different abilities.
Imagine how it must be for regular soldiers fighting against aliens. They are being pushed back by huge, heavily armored brutes their weapons barely scratching the alien armor... and then out of nowhere come these 4 meters tall powersuit and send the hulking aliens FLYING with a rocket punch.
