Very good.Β Getting the values and shapes to read first makes adding color so much easier.

Hey, do you start with sketching or painting values from the beginning? I've hard times thumbnailing and my composition suffers from it always so I stopped doing thumbnails at all but wanna give it one more try. Any tips?

Yeah, digitally I always start with shapes. But in order to study composition I also use Copics - they help in getting both shape and line (they've got that marker-shaped end, you know).
Also... well, I believe that it's better to throw away a crave to get a nice picture fast and start with a 3-4 grade grey palette like these: www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/ATCfcu⦠(more on www.pinterest.co.uk/artanda_ru⦠) just to search a composition good enough to develop it into something more readable. And for this purpose the smaller - the better!
