Description
Finally! It`s finished! This one was so long (mainly because I could draw not more than 2 hours a day, because of homeworks). I think it was about 30 hours total. Done in photoshop CS2 with a mouse.
Entry for contest.
Since I`m not one of those good artists, whose drawings are so perfectly clear, that there`s no need for explaining what`s in this picture, I have no other choice but to write explanation. So it`s a wolf. She`s standing at the lake shore, and lake water shows reflection of her soul. In her life she`s acting and pretends to be staid and peaceful, while she feels anger and emptiness, her heart bears only hatred towards everything.
I know that =PolarisAstrum favorite animals are horses (at least gallery gives me such idea). At the beginning I really wanted to draw 2 horses, one how it appears and reflection of what`s in soul. But then I understood that would mean just putting in one image [link] and [link] And that would be just useless to draw such black and white horses again. And then I started to think that wolf in such situation would be much more meaningful and suit better.
I have put here differences between black and white as well as red and blue (cold and warm colors). In reflection I changed her head to make an angry expression. I didn`t changed her pose to attacking, because I wanted to have the mirror effect. Rocks and dead trees shows how empty and sad she feels.
For lake waves I made some brushes, so that took me only 5 minutes to draw them. THESE BRUSHES ARE AVAILABLE HERE [link]
For grass and leaves I used brushes made by *redheadstock and *Katikut .

I've seen this on elfwood at mod's for the first time, then decided to check the link here as I don't really use elfwood that much anymore.
It's really stunning, specially the details in the fur. Great work on it. Love the concept also.

Thank you so much! That`s already my second mod`s choice on Elfwood. I`m so happy about getting it again.
I don`t really use Elfwood often anymore, but I`m still uploading there something from my art every few months.

Woah, grats. I never got any mod's choice every time i submitted new art, so after a while i just got annoyed, deleted all my pictures and stuck to deviantART. Mainly cause of having to wait 2 months in queue for nothing on elfwood. And also when browsing random mods and seeing only naked non-fantasy women (just saying in description 'she's a warrior/mage/elf but you cant see her ears etc) as most commented / most mod's'ed. Kinda annoying after a while.

That queue in elfwood sure is very annoying. I always hate waiting there.
I got my first mod`s choice 10 months after joining elfwood, and at that time I was already annoyed from it, and gotten here. But I still upload there something now and then, and now it`s mod`s choice once again for me.
I agree about these non-fantasy characters, they shouldn`t even be in elfwood.

Ironically, they are, and they even get mod's. Oh well *shrug* that's life I guess.
And grats on both mod's Guess I should upload some art from time to time also, who knows?
just that I got so bored of people appreciating naked women and so on that I even quit scanning my work and gave it to my boyfriend as a present. Atleast I know he appreciates proper fantasy

Yeah, that`s true, that`s how life works.
Some people really appreciate naked woman, but not everyone, there are also someone who enjoys good art, and I would say, that there are lots of them (at least me, and some people I know).
It`s not that bad, even if everything`s unfair sometimes, it`s not always like this. And who knows, maybe one day our art will be more appreciated.

Well, pretty much all we can do is wait and see, and hope for the best Though from time to time it's just.. hard to do so. Specially when most viewed / faved / mod's'ed art is either horrible quality (most popular comics on here for example are all with stickfigures) or with naked women. It's depressing for some artists most of the time, and discouraging.
But only time can tell what happens.

Yeah, here sure are lots of really bad pictures that have many views and faves. But even if that`s discouraging, here are also lots of awesome pictures that have the attention they deserve, so it`s not that bad in general.
And don`t worry, your drawings are very good! And as long as you remember that, it`s not that important anymore, how many people appreciate your works rightly.
And I still believe that my drawings won`t be underrated always.

Oh well, it's pretty discouraging no matter what. And I've rarely seen properly appreciated pictures from artists that also can say thank you and dont have the attitude of 'just too good for everyone else around me'. This is really rare, and I believe I've only seen it once, maybe twice.
And aw, thanks Tho now I'm afraid these websites destroyed me too much and I'll stop posting proper art until I get my own website or something. Or unless I improve a lot and more people start appreciating them.
Or unless I draw naked girls
And hope they won't

AndreasAvester In reply to ladydrake [2008-12-01 14:11:18 +0000 UTC]
I will never draw naked girls, and I don`t suggest you that either.
I`m drawing for myself, because that`s what I love doing most, and definitely not for pageviews or faves. And there`s no need to take seriously attitude of those who don`t appreciate our work.
And don`t let any website to destroy you! They are not worth your worrying. Just draw for yourself not for others, some strangers in the websites, who you don`t even know.

I once drew a naked girl, tho that was mainly for personal study and never made it to dA or any other site like this.
And I'm mainly drawing for myself also, just that I'd like to get a job as illustrator someday, and it's always annoying me to see what art is appreciated nowadays.
But your kind words helped

I already have no hopes that I could possibly work as an artist, because my works won`t be appreciated and there`s no hope to earn enough money with art. It`s a hobby for me, and I`m practicing for myself because I enjoy drawing and definitely not for future profit.
And if nowadays good art isn`t appreciated, I can keep drawing for myself, and earn money somehow else. For now I think about becoming a lawyer.
Always glad to help!

Aw, well, good luck with being a lawyer You'll prolly need it, there's a lot of lawyers out ther also. At least where I live. Must be no. 2 career choice after doctor.
I was hoping that I could write a book that hasn't been written before and do the artwork for it myself, and maybe that way get known as good artist and get comissions or atleast a part time job as a concept artist for an unknown game company, I don't care, as long as I could get money out of these for, ouchly, I'm not good at anything else I could pick as a career. I suck at maths and every other science. I'm only good with art and languages. And there's too many professional translators out there so that companies won't take one that is still in college.
But drawing for yourself works well too. Before I realised I can't do much else with my life except draw, I was just drawing for fun also, and was happy that I could make someone's day with my art.

AndreasAvester In reply to ladydrake [2008-12-17 04:20:08 +0000 UTC]
I know becoming a good lawyer won`t be easy, but I want to try.
It`s different for me, at school I`m good at everything (except sport). I`m doing very well at maths, sciences and languages. So it`s clear, that I have better career options than just being an artist, because many famous artists became famous only after death, and lived in poverty. Such life don`t satisfy me at all. I want a good career and life without money problems.
I used to draw for fun, but now improving is more important for me than just having fun. I want to draw as good as the world`s best artists really badly.

2 months ago I had this idea to draw wolf staring in the water at reflection in it. Then I decided that there`s no way I could possibly paint something so complicate until the deadline. I thought it will take for me years until I`ll be able to paint something like this in photoshop, so there`s no use even to write this in my 'things to draw' list.
But in my previous image [link] I handled the waterfall well enough, so I decided to try also more complicate lake water with wolf`s reflection in it.
But two months ago I seriously wouldn`t be able to draw this wolf`s picture. I`m getting better in photoshop with every image I make.

I usually start a drawing, which at first look slike total crap, but then I update it bit by bit and fix things one by one, and out comes something cool! and I've learned!

AndreasAvester In reply to lana8ice [2008-09-28 16:15:50 +0000 UTC]
That`s great, if you can update picture so that it son`t looks like a crap. For me sometimes it`s vice versa. Good lineart turns into a complete crap. And if lineart is bad, there`s no hope to update it into something better. But usually if start of an image is good, it continues the same way.

lana8ice In reply to AndreasAvester [2008-09-30 17:35:08 +0000 UTC]
well, if I see a bad change, and they do occur as well, I turn it back to the way it was, which usually works. but I get bad changes less and less. it's just, looking what's wrong about the picture, changing it, and then changing it again, untill it's fixed.
I know what you mean, I can often tell in the beginning of the drawing wether it'll be a success or not.

School is annoying as usually, lots of homework to do.
Tomorrow is a history test, and I should be studying now. ^^: I really want to get 10 in this test badly. After getting 9 in geography (I still don`t understand how I could make such silly mistakes) I must get at least some good mark.
Anyway few more minutes and then I really will shut down computer and start doing what I should do already.
Not really. I still haven`t recovered after losing most of my data in that computer crush. But anyway I`m already working on new images (4 at once), and soon I should have at least something finished.
And also I finally got computer program in which 3D images are made, and after few days of trying to understand how it works I understood that I don`t understand anything in this program. This is where lots of my free time goes.

4 at once, sounds like you're really busy... but it feels nice to be drawing
whaha well maybe you can find a walkthrough online...
afraid I won't be much use though, I couldn't figure photoshop out without help from friends... >>
what's the programme called?

Thanks! I think it will be good, at least in my opinion I wrote everything correctly, but I still have to wait for the results.
Maybe for others, but it isn`t good for me.
Program is called CINEMA 4D. It`s much more complicate than photoshop. Compared with this nightmare learning photoshop was a piece of cake.
You are lucky that you had friends who could help you. I was on my own with photoshop and nothing is changed with this program now.

There sure are much less Cinema 4D tutorials than photoshop tutorials in the internet, but I already have found some.
But I can`t say I wasn`t warned. I was told that learning to make 3D images is hard even with a teacher. But of course when someone says that I can`t do something so easily I must prove that they are wrong. I choose Cinema 4D, because this program was told to be the most "beginner friendly" from 3D programs. But since many artists are making 3D images, I think I also should be able to learn that.
Thanks, I`ll try.

I guess it makes sense that there are less, photoshop is a lot more popular and used by more people.
so, it's a 3D programme, but it's called 4D.
ok...
I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out
