Description

Hello guys! Andre is back, and this time with something different. I have been seeing tier lists and costume origins for a while, so I have decided to combine the two with one game I have been playing recently, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled, one of my all time favorite racing games! I would like to welcome you guys to my Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled Costume Tier List (or CTRNFCTL) for short! So I have decided to rank all of the costumes of each character, from the ones I think are the best, to the ones I think are the worst! Keep in mind these are all my own opinions only and I’ll also put up if the costume has a specific origin or not, based on the costume I’m discussing, and I’ll separate them into separate mini tiers, based on my overall thoughts on each costume, like if its Excellent, Great, or Solid as an example (A, A-, A+). Anyways, let’s begin with the main star of ALL the Crash Team Racing games, Crash Bandicoot himself!

Crash Bandicoot
We’ll start by talking about the main star of the show, Crash Bandicoot himself. I’m giving this guy an A ranking as he is an excellent character. My overall opinion on this character is that he’s just as goofy as he is silly in his design, personally I think of him as an intelligent and silly goofball that Cortex has created, and personally I like him a decent amount. I think he deserves some credit for being one of the goofiest characters from any game that I have played.

Shiba Crash
The first color palette to talk about is Shiba Crash, this is a reference to the Shiba Inu, which from my research are a breed of hunting dog that come from Japan, with Inu meaning dog. They are small alert & agile dogs that cope very well with mountain trails, and hiking terrains, and they are different from the Akita Inu and Hokkaido, since they are with distinct blood line, temperament, and a smaller size than the other Japanese dog breeds. I think overall this color palette is good! It’s not my most favorite regarding my most favorite costume, but overall, the golden yellowish hue does look decent enough to be classified as good! So, I’m overall giving this one a B+ ranking overall, there are a few slight improvements I would have made, but overall, it’s decent enough to be good!

Skunk Crash
The next color palette to talk about is Skunk Crash, which based off… well, obviously Skunks! They are mammals coming from Canada & certain parts of the United States. They are known for letting off a terrible smelling gas that can blind you and require you to take a bath tomato juice in order for you to get rid of the smell. Personally, to me, I think this costume was poorly executed in regards to the costume itself. My main issue is the black color combined with the white strip in the middle. Not sure why but the black color is slightly depressing on that white strip, and I think it clashes too much with the costume itself, which is a shame because the skunk enemies look unique and cool, yet this costume does not. So sadly because of that, I’ll have to give this costume a C ranking because of that, not one of my favorites to say the least, but it isn’t bad enough to get into D tier, so at least this costume is lucky not to be a D tier costume.

Blue Hyena Crash
The last color palette to talk about is Blue Hyena Crash, one of the few that is required to be unlocked with CTR Tokens. This costume is in an odd situation, because it’s based off Hyenas, which are real life animals only found in Africa, but Hyenas aren’t blue, they usually are gray or brown most of the time, the only time I see Blue Hyenas is only online in images. Overall, as for my thoughts on this costume, I think it’s okay. Even though blue is one of my favorite colors, this isn’t REALLY a color I associate with Crash, which I know sounds strange, but it’s the truth, I don’t necessarily think Crash looks THAT good in a blue coat, it’s not bad, but I think there are other colors that are better suited to Crash than blue coats in my opinion personally. So, because of that, I’m giving this costume a B- ranking as this costume’s official ranking.

Aviator Crash
The first legendary skin is the Aviator skin. This one is based off the plane levels where you play as Crash in Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped. I think this is overall a good one, Crash’s silly goggles combined with his victory animation of him trying to fly like a bird but failing is charming especially to me! So overall I’m giving this one a B+ ranking as it surpasses the Shiba costume by a long shot!

Scuba Crash
The next legendary skin is the Scuba skin. This one is based off the scuba levels in Crash Bandicoot’s 2 & 3 and have him in a scuba outfit. I think this one overall is okay, it’s not anything crazy or drastic, but I do have to say the victory animation of Crash diving into some water offscreen is clever, so because of that reason, I’m going to give this costume a B- ranking. While it doesn’t surpass the Shiba or Hyena outfits, nor the Aviator costume, it does at least do a good job of doing something unique that most of the other costumes do not, and I respect this costume for it!

Biker Crash
This next legendary skin is called Biker Crash, which is based off his outfit in the biker levels of Crash 3. This costume, I’m gonna say it, is perfection to the fullest. Like seriously, you cannot convince me that a bandicoot with a badass looking Greaser biker outfit, does not look awesome, it just fits Crash all too well, and makes him even more amazing than he needs to be, and does kind of remind me of Wario from smash bros brawl when he’s on the bike in the same way. So, because of that, this the first costume that I’m going to give an S++ ranking for, since it’s just too perfect not to be given this ranking!

Reindeer Crash
The next legendary skin is called Reindeer Crash, which is a straightforward one to talk about, it’s based off Rudolph the Red nose Reindeer. I shouldn’t go into too much detail with that one. What I find so unique about this costume is that in his losing animation, Crash is sleeping in a completely different pose, which is unique as the other costumes did not do this at all, since they usually have him sleeping in the same position, but not this costume. I think this is overall a goofy and very solid costume to me because it fits Crash’s silly nature in my opinion, so I’m giving this costume an A+ ranking because of that.

Mad Scientist Crash
The next legendary skin is called Mad Scientist Crash, which puts him in a scientist outfit. This costume is interesting as it’s based off one of his alternate color palettes in a forgotten game called Crash Tag Team racing, which I find interesting. Anyways as far as the costume is concerned, this one is one incredible costume to me, and that’s because of his victory animation, where my man LITERALLY summons rainstorms with his BARE HANDS! I don’t know how Crash managed to possess the power to do that, but darn do I give my man respect for something as awesome as that! Because of that reason, I’m giving this costume an S+ just because of how bad ass and amazing it is! It may not surpass the Biker outfit, but you can’t deny this is not an awesome costume!

Rustland Crash
The last legendary skin to talk about is Rustland Crash, which puts him in a Rustland outfit with a sick shirt, and cool green radioactive goggles. As far as I am concerned, this is a costume made sully on the Rustland Megamix course, which is a good enough reference to put for me. Overall, this is one heck of a fantastic costume. Combined with the fact that his victory animation has him spinning much faster than he normally does and kill it off with one awesome victory pose with fire behind him, and you got one fantastic costume in a bad ass package. Seriously there is no way that this costume couldn’t receive the A+ ranking more than it deserves, and therefor is the reason I’m giving it this ranking. While it doesn’t rank into the S tier in my eyes, I still do think it’s quite a fantastic sighting to see, especially to me!

Space Aviator Crash
Next let’s talk about the first legendary color palette, which is Space Aviator Crash. This is the same as before but now based off space elements, like Crash’s helmet changing to white, and the goggles being golden yellow to represent the sun, even the fur being a much darker brown to represent space. I think this is overall a great color palette that definitely surpasses the original for being unique with it’s creation, and I think it’s a pretty good one in my eyes!

Arcade Aviator Crash
Now let’s talk about the second legendary color palette, which is Arcade Aviator Crash. This is the same as before but now being more based on arcade machines, like the goggles having green target signals like in some arcades, and having tan yellow, light blue, and red color palettes similar to the colors of what most arcade machines depict having. I think this is an amazing costume to me, it surpasses the original and Space variants by a LONG way, and I love how the colors mix together so nicely into a great package that helps give this gaming feeling. I personally think it deserves an S ranking because of those achievements. It may not surpass the other two costumes I noted, but it’s still quite an amazing costume that I respect either way!

Beetox Aviator Crash
The last legendary color palette costume to talk about is the Beenox Aviator Crash. This costume is based off the Beenox logo, which is mostly blue on the logo, which makes sense, Blue being one of my favorite colors. However, UNFORTUNATELY, even though blue is one of my favorite colors, this costume I’m not going to lie looks very horrible and might actually be one of the worst costumes ever created in this game. My main complaint goes to the way the blues and whites were handled on the costume, because honestly the blue accents on the nose, goggles, and accessories, combined with the silver fur, is not a good combination in my eyes, and it clashes too much with what the costume is trying to present. So sadly, I’m going to have to give this costume a D ranking, since it’s not great in both it’s presentation, and the way it looks in my opinion.

Electron Crash
Now let’s talk about one of the costumes that’s exclusive to the oxide edition of the game, or if you pre-order the game early, that being Electron Crash. This one is based off the track Electron Avenue, which is a good enough reference for this costume. My thoughts on this costume overall, even though I don’t have access to it, is that it overall looks incredible too look at, I especially like the victory animation where Crash goes Hell a fast with his running shoes, it just looks silly and ridiculous and I love that about this costume! So giving this one an S+ ranking because of that, while it does not surpass the Mad Scientist or Biker outfits, it does surpass the Arcade Aviator Crash just because of how unique it’s presentation is!

Star Crash
Now let’s talk about one of the costumes that’s ANOTHER exclusive to the oxide edition of the game, that being Star Crash. This one is ALSO interesting based off Star Crash from Tag Team Racing but updated to be more outer space like to fit the theme, and I think that was a great decision by Beenox to do this! As for my overall thoughts on the costume, I think it’s great! Overall, the way of how Crash tries to test out his gun but fails is pretty charming, and overall, I like how the costume is presented just in general, it’s one of the better costumes out there that I can really adore, and so I do! I have to give this one an A- ranking and while it does not surpass the Space Aviator costume, it’s still good enough to be classified into the A ranking tier in my eyes!

Retro Crash
The last and final costume to talk about for Crash is his Retro appearance, a costume that is only available in the PlayStation versions of the game, which I sadly don’t have access to due to me having the Nintendo Switch version of the game. This one has Crash in his PlayStation appearance from the early era of crash games, which makes sense since Naughty Dog were the original creators behind Crash. Overall, as for my thoughts on this costume, I think it’s average, but I’m only saying this for a couple of reasons. The first is that this costume is ONLY available on the PlayStation version of the game, meaning I can’t access this on the switch. Secondly, since I have not played the original versions of the games sadly, I don’t really have any feelings over this model, this is just to impress those that have played the original versions of the games, so I can see this ranking higher on your tier list, but as of right now for me, I’m just going to give this a simple B ranking to help please everyone about my overall thoughts on the costume.

Let me know in the comments if you agree with some of these choices or if you disagree with them, and let me know which of these is your most favorite costume.
