I wanted to give it a try.. But then I saw that you used the Dodge & Burn method
No matter how hard I try, I suck a Dodge & Burning
Are you using you mouse, or a touchpad?

well, I'm using a mouse, I also have a tablet but it can be done with the mouse as well. It needs a bit of practice and a bit of eye training to see the highlights and shadows. On you tube I have a few tutorials related to that but not a full one. I'll have to make a complete dodge/Burn tutorial.

I normally don't comment but that was an easy to follow tutorial with superb results. I usually just copy the image and use the dodge and burn tools, but the 50% grey filled layer method looks interesting.
