The vertical format works really well for this.  The bands of black midground/purple background across the bottom really anchor the strong vertical of the tree (and look insanely good with the other colors you've chosen).  I like the diagonal division between the large unbroken orange/red area of the sunlit foliage and the detailed area on the lower right with all the black shadows and bubbles of light background showing through -- very dynamic.  The texture added by the combing is nice, I think it works better where it's curving rather than straight, as it fits in better with the very organic feel of the rest of the piece.  And that straight line of the edge of the combing on the left of the foliage calls way too much attention to itself  -- having a division between the darker area on the left and the brighter area on the right adds some nice depth, but having a straight line as the division just doesn't say "foliage."  I'm only picking on these little things because you asked for a critique -- taken as a whole this is a beautiful, beautiful piece and very satisfying to look at for a long time.  Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.
