Beautiful shot!
They're pretty prominent in the deep forests where I live, too.

I have several, actually. My friend is a falconer and has one named Gaydee that he hunts with. In the summer when she's out we can toss tennis balls and she catches them out of the air.

Wow! Fantastic image. Sorry for the late comment. I'm amazed at the clarity. What kind of camera do you use?

Oh it's an old Canon 10D - nowt flash. Just a bit of sharpening in CS2 really. And my immense natural talent of course

f/8?! Whoa, what focal length? Just seems to be such a shallow focus. And all the better for it, might I add. Love the crystal clear focus on the 'eagle eye' and that the rest of the image is blurred by various degrees.

It was a real beauty. Just oozed power and grace. They didn't fly it as there have been problems with it going after dogs and cats etc........ hehe.

There was a program on the TV usinging state of the art high speed miniture cameras last year. they strapped one on a Goshawk, Golden Eagle and a Pereigrine. Awsome footage from the goshawk going through the tree's
it was incredible.

Thanks It's tricky to get some feel for the grace of these creatures with the typical headshots so I've tried a different approach.

Nice details and composition, pitty that he is not a free goshawk.

I know how hard to see one in free and cant imagine to photograph one close like this

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Andrew-and-Seven In reply to europhoto [2007-03-02 19:59:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's a shame he's not free, but then again he's opened my eyes to the beauty of these creatures, so it's not a waste. And I think they have at least a safe life.

europhoto In reply to Andrew-and-Seven [2007-03-02 20:18:41 +0000 UTC]

No not a shame and waste Andrew, thats their life and you just photograph it. A safe life depends on what the life is for. ifone offers a safe life to me as spending 200 years ofliving in a glass jar, I prefer 30 years of free life. I dont have any idea what those birds thinks though.

Lovely capture and comp. Even the blur in the wing in the bg works well for this pose. You captured fine detail and yet the hint of motion. The contrast between fg and bg well done.

Thanks B, you are I tihnk far more experienced at this kind of shot than me, so your comments mean alot. It's not quite as sharp as I'd like, and the 10D I use doesn't focus as fast as it needs too, but I'm pretty pleased with it.

Thanks again my friend.
