Description Taken at Oulton Park during the British Superbike Championship this year. It was a mostly wet event which is hardly a surprise with it being held in the British summer.

Motorsport fans will note the wet tyres on Scott Smart's Hawk Kawasaki ZX-10R, these tyres are said to give as much grip in the wet as normal road tyres give us in the dry. Which is a lot.

For the racers, it's more about being smooth and avoiding the painted kerbs and lines on track.

Scott is clearly doing his best to dry out the track for his next lap.

It's amazing enough to see these guys go around a dry track but I marvel at their skills when doing the same thing on a wet track.

I really like the shot, esp the flames.

Yeah wet racing is like defying physics. Their tyres apparently give the same levels of grip in the wet as a road bike's tyres in the dry. A mate put some on his bike and did a wet trackday - and sailed around everyone with his knee on the deck hehe.

Damn, I wonder how long the tires would last on the road......I doubt they're built for long durability.

I can just imagine riding on the road with them after a long rain ....I would feel like a superhero blasting through traffic

Andrew-and-Seven In reply to avi44x [2007-12-02 09:24:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah they last about 30mins in the dry - you know what a carry on it is when a wet race becomes a dry one right ?

But my mate's tyres cost him £150 the pair and last for ages if only used in the wet since you don't go hard enough to rip them up like dry tyres. And you can ride like a Rossi !!!

Result.

A bit too much trouble to be switching from dry to wet tires all the time....esp around here, it's mostly just hot and dry.

another freakin awesome capture.

i'm still amazed by the all the fervid asscar fans who care nothing for bike road racing. it really ticks me off.

racing in the rain on 2 wheels shows much more talent and guts and skills than 4 wheels, in a ceaseless circle, on dry pavement.

Andrew-and-Seven In reply to GraphicWeirdo [2007-09-07 12:42:29 +0000 UTC]

Money? Well not yet. Next year I'll see. Thing is I'd have to pay the race organisers £700 to sell prints from the year's racing. That's a lot of cash to put up front.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GraphicWeirdo In reply to Andrew-and-Seven [2007-09-07 18:05:05 +0000 UTC]

Yikes.. that is quite a bit of $ to sell the prints.

Was that a verbal or contractual agreement?
I dont see how they can stop you from selling your own work.
Unless they have said it up front.

It's part of the deal of getting a press pass. They hold the exclusive commercial rights to all images taken at their meetings.

It doesn't stop some, but if they find out it's goodbye to ever getting another pass

You know how I do love the flames, bud. Great shot. I honestly can't believe the bikers race in wet conditions, but then again... England. Not like you can really avoid it, right?

they race in the rain in the u.s. too.
it's the asscar wussies who run from the track if a raindrop hits.
